A Nightmare On Elm Street Got Its Name From A National Tragedy
By SANDY SCHAEFER
"A Nightmare on Elm Street" is a horror story about kids paying for their parent’s sins. It symbolizes justice system failures with younger generations battling the same monsters.
It's only fitting, then, that director Wes Craven got the film's title from one of the most infamous American national tragedies in the 20th century.
Elm Street is the setting of William S. Gray's wholesome Dick and Jane books for kids, representing the ideal family existence, it’s also a famous street in Dallas, Texas.
U.S. President John F. Kennedy was shot and killed in 1963 on Elm Street, which represents the darkness symbolized by the film’s murderer, Freddy Krueger.
