Based on a popular webcomic of the same name, Kim Joo-Hwan's Korean mystery “Bloodhounds” is one of Netflix’s hidden gems that’s currently topping the streaming service’s charts.
"Bloodhounds” combines exciting boxing matches with a mystery that gradually evolves into a smart crime thriller, as Geon-woo and Woo-jin attempt to pay off a private loan.
Like “Squid Game,” the appeal of "Bloodhounds” and other Korean series comes from their stories featuring relatable characters brought into fantastical scenarios.
The series continues the tradition of subverting expectations by elevating itself above generic action thriller tropes, choosing to convey character nuance with stylistic choices.
Although the show’s plot of trying to pay back a money lender seems like a drama cliché, its focus on the central friendship between the two leads breaks its genre formula.
