A Key Piece Of Dune 2 Tech Came From An Obscure French Comic Book

Denis Villeneuve delivered a faithful film adaptation of Frank Herbert's "Dune" novel. However, the director also incorporated technology from another sci-fi story into the movie.
Created by French comic artist Philippe Druillet, "The 6 Voyages of Lone Sloane" used futuristic absurdity to highlight the wonders and pitfalls of technological commodification.
Producer and author of "The Art and Soul of Dune: Part Two," Tanya Lapointe, explained how Villeneuve was inspired by Druillet's work for the Harkonnen's holographic console.
Lapointe said, "Denis further wanted to develop the strangeness of these scenes by adding Harkonnen console operators hypnotically calling out geographical coordinates."
Villeneuve expanded on this, saying, "I've been haunted by this image for the past 45 years. I love the complexity of it, and how it transforms humans into insects."
