A Classic Star Trek Episode Was Saved By A Pile Of Old Sheepskins

The "Star Trek" episode "A Private Little War" has long been seen as a metaphor for the Vietnam War, featuring an armed nation of Neurals who were to be dressed like cavemen.
However, in the book "Captains' Logs: The Unauthorized Complete Star Trek Voyages," getting together dozens of caveman outfits proved prohibitively expensive.
Director Marc Daniels recalls costume designer Bill Theiss, who "bought a bunch of cheap sheepskin jackets, cut off the sleeves and turned them inside out."
Sewn together at the last minute, the outfits for the Neurals were ultimately earthy, primitive, and weirdly convincing as the uniform of an agrarian society.
