A Charlie Day Character Break Made It Into One It’s Always Sunny Episode
By DANIELLE RYAN
The main cast of “It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia” are very funny people, so breaking character happens. However, one of Charlie Day’s breaks made it into an episode.
On “The Always Sunny Podcast,” Day mentioned the episode “The World Series Defense,” in which he and Glenn Howerton did a bit of going off-script that made Day break character.
In the episode, the gang is trying to argue against parking tickets received by Dennis after his Range Rover got stuck in the parking lot of the Philadelphia Phillies stadium.
As Dennis lays out how the events unfolded, Charlie (Day) tries to assist, handing Dennis random papers that he clearly does not need. Dennis swats the papers away in anger.
In turn, this makes Day break character. He shared, “I clearly laugh towards the very end [...] and your reaction gets me, and I have to look down because I'm laughing.”
Howerton explained that it was never planned for Day to attempt to hand him the papers. Since he was trying to remember his lines and act, the constant annoyance was irritating.
