5 Factors That Made The Flash A Box Office Bomb
By RYAN SCOTT
After years of development and several months of hype, “The Flash” hit theaters on Father’s Day weekend 2023. However, the film is expected to lose money for Warner Bros.
While blame for the film’s failure has been passed around in many directions, there isn’t a single reason it failed. Instead, it’s a combination of factors.
1. The Hype
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said it was “the best superhero I’ve ever seen,” with James Gunn, the co-head of DC Studios, echoing the statement, though viewers disagree.
“The Flash” sits at a 66% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes — nowhere near what Zaslav or Gunn claims — which may have left fans feeling misled.
2. Ezra Miller
Ezra Miller was a promising up-and-comer taking on the role of Barry Allen in “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice”; however, the actor has since become a controversial figure.
The average person may not have paid much attention to the buzz surrounding Miller’s actions, but fans noticed the actor’s complete absence on the movie’s press tour.
3. DC Universe Reboot
Gunn and Peter Safran of DC Studios revealed earlier in 2023 their plans to reboot the DC Universe with new actors in prominent roles, beginning with “Superman: Legacy”
in 2025.
With the end of the so-called Snyderverse on the horizon, many fans have been left wondering what’s the point in seeing the latest entry in a
dead franchise.
