12 Shows Like Hannibal That Will Get Your Blood Pumping
"Luther" is the story of DCI John Luther (Idris Elba) and Alice Morgan, the killer he can't quite catch and is increasingly uncertain that he wants to. Luther isn't introspective like Will Graham; he is an old-time cop with the ability to see a crime scene almost as well as Graham does, but with too much anger in his heart for the perpetrators.
True Detective
In Season 1, Rust Cohle looks at the world with a spiraling nihilism that makes everything seem like a cosmic horror story, and it might remind audiences of Will Graham's vision and nightmare. Season 3 pits Wayne Hays against himself in as dreamlike a web as a "Hannibal" fan could want.
American Gods
The magic of "American Gods" begins to dwindle fast in Seasons 2 and 3, but Season 1 is still a treat to experience, no doubt due to Bryan Fuller, the brain behind "Hannibal," who was one of the season’s showrunners. Fuller doles out some excellent moments that are as vivid as "Hannibal" and loaded with symbols to ponder.
In 1995, retired FBI agent John E. Douglas released a book titled "Mindhunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit" that became the basis for many profilers in popular fiction, including Will Graham. Netflix’s "Mindhunter" is based on the same book and offers plenty for "Hannibal" fans to devour.
Dexter is Hannibal Lecter and Will Graham all in one, as he works for the justice system as a forensics guy and is also a serial killer with a strict code and methodology. Despite its flaws, "Dexter" is a fascinating watch, and even though it isn't as sure in its horror as "Hannibal," it's still a great companion classic.
