10 DC Characters We'd Love To See Get The James Gunn Touch
By JOE GARZA
Midnighter
First appearing in Wildstorm comics before DC bought the company, Midnighter shares similarities with Batman as both have more shadowy personas and rely on natural physical abilities. In James Gunn’s hands, the character could subvert classic Batman elements and use Midnighter to introduce the Authority.
Adam Strange
Sharing a background similar to the MCU’s Star-Lord, Adam Strange was an archaeologist abducted from Earth and brought to the distant planet, Rann. While it may seem redundant for Gunn to take viewers back into the depths of space with a character whose origins are similar to Star-Lord, their personalities are widely different.
Deadman
Boston Brand’s life was cut short by a shadowy figure, and now he must solve his own murder as the spectral hero with the power to possess others known as Deadman. Gunn may have only dabbled in horror and the supernatural genre, but there’s no doubt the filmmaker could pull off this feat and deliver a terrific movie.
Manhunter
Tired of criminals escaping justice through the courts, prosecutor Kate Spade decides to take matters into her own hands and, through equipment left behind from superpowered fights, becomes Manhunter. “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” has explored this concept before, but Gunn could take the idea to violent new heights that Disney wouldn’t allow.
Mr. Terrific
Before becoming Mr. Terrific, Michael Holt was a seemingly ordinary man that happened to earn 14 PhDs, become a millionaire, and win gold medals in the Olympics. Mr. Terrific is a genuinely wholesome and honorable person, making the prospect of Gunn taking on a widely different character from his typical roguish heroes interesting.
