Oscar Isaac Talks Star Wars Episode 7 Stormtroopers, Cast, Leaks And Energy
Star Wars Episode VII star Oscar Isaac recently talked with Entertainment Weekly and during the interview the award-winning actor talked a bit about the upcoming Star Wars film. Isaac talked about his decision to join the sci-fi franchise, his interactions with the original trilogy cast of Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, and Mark Hamill, the recent leaks and more. When asked by Entertainment Weekly if he had much interactions with the original Star Wars trilogy cast of Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, and Mark Hamill on or off-screen while making Episode 7, Issac admitted that he has had "both":
They're such funny people. Carrie is hilarious and doing such cool work. Harrison is back. He went on hiatus for a little while, but he's 150 percent back. It's pretty amazing to see him bounce back. He looks incredible. Everyone's having a really good time. J.J. sets that tone. There's a lot of enthusiasm and it's being done with a lot of heart. There's nothing cynical about the way we're doing this. Even the in way he's shooting it—he's shooting on film and actually building the sets, so you've got hundreds of Stormtroopers or whatever, and hundreds of extras and all the ships. You actually see it. It's all real. Everyone can interact with the world.
His answer seems to suggest that he may share some scenes with Princess Leia, and he does mention shooting scenes with "hundreds of Stormtroopers", but that only confirms what we've previously heard — the empire has not been destroyed and armies of stormtroopers are still fighting for the galaxy far far away.
He also says that "J.J.'s been loosening it up a little bit and trying to make it alive and energized".
It's not formal. They're messy, energized people. We've all intentionally tried to do that. Just make it a little more fiery and messy.
It seems to me that JJ Abrams' marching orders is to try to not to repeat the mistakes of the Star Wars prequels, and try to recapture the magic of the original trilogy. As for the leaks, Issac knows the party line: "People want to know all those special things and when those iconic moments are going to happen, but if all that gets revealed beforehand I feel like it robs people of that moment when they're sitting there watching it for the first time."
