Mumblecore Parody: The Dirty Garage

I'm sure most people probably haven't seen a film in the Mumblecore genre, nevermind even know that the term exists. According to Wikipedia, Mumblecore is an American independent film movement that arose in the early 2000s," primarily characterized by ultra-low budget production (often employing digital video cameras), focus on personal relationships between twenty-somethings, improvised scripts, and non-professional actors. Filmmakers in this genre include Lynn Shelton, Andrew Bujalski, Mark Duplass, Jay Duplass, Aaron Katz, Joe Swanberg, Todd Rohal and Ry Russo-Young."

The most popular films that fall into this genre include Funny Ha Ha, The Puffy Chair, Mutual Appreciation, LL, Medicine for Melancholy, and Humpday. I highly recommend The Puffy Chair for anyone who wants to jump in. While most mainstream audiences still have no idea it exists, The Duplass Brothers have already produced a quasi-satire of the genre with Baghead, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last year.

Jake Szymanski has produced a parody trailer for FunnyOr Die called The Dirty Garage. And this has been a long way of me suggesting that you might not get or appreciate the humor of this parody unless you've seen some of these films. But if you have partaken in some mumblecore, than you'll agree that Szymanski nailed the feel of the genre. Watch the trailer after the jump.
