New 'Logan' Photo Offers A Closer Look At The Villain

A recent photo from Logan showed us the mutant hero after a battle, and now another photo offers a better look at what exactly Hugh Jackman's Wolverine will be doing battle against. Click through to get up close and personal with one of the Reavers — a team of cyborg criminals under the leadership of Donald Pierce (Boyd Holbrook).

As usual, the Logan photo was first revealed on the @wponx Instagram account.

The one-word caption doesn't reveal much, but this mysterious metal hand likely belongs to one of the Reavers, anti-mutant cyborgs that serve as the villains in the movie. It could be a close-up of Donald Pierce, who sports a similar-looking prosthetic in the trailer (see header image). But it looks like some of the other Reavers have similar appendages, so we don't know for sure.

Logan finds Wolverine and Professor X (Patrick Stewart) in old age. Logan's powers are in steep decline, leaving him in a state of chronic pain that he self-treats by binge-drinking, while Professor X's own powers are going haywire. The mutant population is way down, and a shadowy organization called Transigen is on the rise with a program to turn mutant children into killing machines. Logan is jolted back into action to help one particular young mutant, Laura (Dafne Keen).

Boyd Holbrook's Donald Pierce is the head of security for Transigen. In the comics, Pierce led the Reavers in an attack against the X-Men. They found only Wolverine, so they unleashed the full extent of their fury on him alone, crucifying him and leaving him to die.

We'll have to wait and see what happens when Logan goes up against them in the movie, but whatever happens, you can expect it to be rough. Director James Mangold has emphasized that not everyone will make it out of this one alive. "In this flick, people will get hurt or killed when shit falls on them," reads the beginning of the script. "They will get just as hurt or just as killed if they get hit with something big and heavy like, say, a car. Should anyone in our story have the misfortune to fall off a roof or out a window, they won't bounce. They will die."

Also starring in Logan are Stephen Merchant as Caliban, who helps Logan care for Professor X and Richard E. Grant as Zander Rice, the mad scientist behind Transigen's sinister program. Logan opens March 3, 2017.
