International Movie Trailer: Predators

This is the trailer Fox should have released in the first place. We've seen one domestic trailer for Nimrod Antal's Predators, produced by Robert Rodriguez based on his story treatment, and a load of clips and photos. But none of the materials have shown the movie a lot of people hope this will be. This international vaguely red-band trailer does. It makes Predators look like exactly the tense, violent sci-fi adventure it should be.

IGN debuted this trailer, which is kinda red band thanks to a bit of coarse language and some blood, and the site has it in HD. After some of the same scene-setting and atmosphere establishment we've seen in other clips, this goes right to the blood. It's not like this is a trailer cut by Herschell Gordon Lewis, but it's a damn sight better than what we've seen before, and makes the movie look a lot more like what it should be.

The big question I'm left with after all the trailers and clips is: who does Topher Grace play, and why isn't he in the trailers? I'm guessing that he hasn't been cut out of the trailers because he's bad, so there must be a reveal of some sort. (And, actually talking to a few people just after posting this, there's definitely a Topher Grace reveal, but I haven't had it spoiled for me, so I can't spoil it for you.)

The fact that we don't see Grace at all helps suggest that, as much as the trailers seem to be showing, they're really probably only giving out first and second act material, for the most part. So even if you think you've seen the whole movie after watching the trailers and clips, my understanding is that there's more, and possibly better material in store.

Predators stars Adrien Brody, Laurence Fishburne, Topher Grace, Alice Braga, Danny Trejo, Walton Goggins, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali and Oleg Taktarov. It opens on July 9th.
