Last month, we brought you an in-depth review of Lucasfilm and ILMxLAB’s virtual reality video game Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge. As a newcomer to the medium of virtual reality, my experience is admittedly limited, but I found the Star Wars VR adventure to be an immersive and thrilling shooter that elevated rudimentary gameplay and a simple story. So when the opportunity came to venture into another blockbuster film franchise in virtual reality, needless to say, I was excited.
Jurassic World Aftermath takes you back to the island of Isla Nublar two years after the fall of Jurassic World and before the events of the sequel Fallen Kingdom. What starts as a mission to collect valuable information turns into a fight for your life as you find yourself stranded on the island and being hunted by velociraptors and dilophosauruses. The new virtual reality video game experience Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge debuted on Oculus devices yesterday. In addition to having an opportunity to play through it early (read our review here), /Film was able to have a virtual chat with the game’s director Jose Perez III and producer Alyssa Finley, who both worked on the Vader Immortal VR experience and have a long history working in video games.

Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge is a new virtual reality video game experience from Lucasfilm, ILMxLAB, and Oculus that allows players to step into the world of Batuu, the planet where the Star Wars theme park expansions at Disneyland and Disney World exist in the franchise’s official canon. However, rather than creating an experience that just lets fans walk around a virtual version of Galaxy’s Edge, this is an action-packed video game shooter that allows you to explore areas surrounding Black Spire Outpost on Batuu, taking fans into more dangerous and wild territory where enemies are waiting at every turn and deadly creatures won’t hesitate to attack.
/Film was offered the opportunity to play through Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge on the Oculus Quest 2 headset before the game’s release on Oculus devices today. Though VR is still in the early stages of establishing its own corner of the entertainment market, this Star Wars VR adventure is immersive and fun enough to make a simple story and rudimentary gameplay feel more exciting and engaging than your average console game. Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge is a new virtual reality game for Oculus Quest that will allow fans to venture into the world of Batuu from Disney theme parks. By way of the game’s narrative, fans can also be transported to other places and times in the Star Wars galaxy when they hear tales from an alien bartender named Seezelslak (voiced by Bobby Moynihan). Star Wars: Tales from Galaxy’s Edge, the new immersive VR experience from Lucasfilm and ILMxLAB, is coming to Oculus Quest platforms this fall. Now, new trailer finally reveals some gameplay footage from the new adventure that unfolds on Batuu, the canonical planet from the Star Wars-themed Disney theme park expansion.
Along with the first look at actual gameplay from Star Wars: Tales from Galaxy’s Edge, the trailer reveals Jedi Master Yoda will be part of the game, voiced by none other than Frank Oz. And even though the game has you playing a droid technician, that doesn’t preclude you from getting caught up in some Jedi action, complete with lightsaber wielding, Force pushing, and more. Earlier this year, we learned Lucasfilm’s immersive entertainment studio ILMxLAB was working on another Star Wars VR project, this time centered around the Black Spire Outpost locale at the center of the Disney theme park land Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Following the release of some concept art earlier this month, an official first look video has provided the first story details on Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge, coming to the Oculus Quest sometime later this year.
