Roku Buying Quibi Shows

After launching earlier this year, the short-form streaming service Quibi shut down after just six months on the market. However, all the original programming created for the on-the-go entertainment hub is about to get a new home.

Roku, the most popular streaming media player in the United States, is trying to build their library of content by entering advanced talks to become the exclusive home for Quibi’s offerings. All of Quibi’s movies and shows would be available to stream through the Roku Channel, helping the streaming beef up their content with a collection of original programming not available anywhere else. Quibi didn’t find much success on our phones, so now the embattled streaming service is expanding to TV. The Quibi app has launched on Apple TV, Android TV, and Amazon Fire TV following months of struggling to find a footing as the premiere mobile streaming platform. But it appears to be too little too late, as the WSJ is reporting the service is shutting down.

A new report indicates that the service is exploring “strategic options” including a potential sale. Who would buy Quibi at this point? I don’t know – maybe if we all start a GoFundMe page we could all go in on it together. Just a thought.
