The 25 Best Movie Robots of All Time

Handout photo showing Actor Robert Shaw and the mechanical shark nicknamed Bruce in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts

15. Bruce, Jaws (1975)

This is a bit of a cheat. In the movie, Bruce is Jaws, a live, killer Great White shark. He’s alive. That’s not my pick here. I’m picking the robot Steven Spielberg used to create those effects. The actual mechanical model. It was so bad, it made the movie good and earned a spot on my list.

T-1000 Terminator 2

14. T-1000, Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991)

Liquid metal destruction with a baby doll face and a penchant for “The Galleria,” the T-1000 was literally frightening in James Cameron’s classic sequel. He was also unlike any robot we’d ever seen before.

Real Steel

13. Atom, Real Steel (2011)

The sparring robot turned champion is the heart and soul of this fun, underrated mix of sci-fi and sports. He’s got personality, a great story and can really take a punch.

Transformers Optimus Prime

12. Optimus Prime, Transformers (2007)

I do love the animated Optimus Prime but Michael Bay’s live action version wins out here. He’s an unfathomable feat of design that’s both gorgeous and somehow realistic. The character itself is great too, a born leader with incredible gravitas.

C-3PO Star Wars

11. C-3P0, Star Wars (1977)

This rank is probably a little surprising if you know me. Look, I love the nervous, bumbling protocol droid. He’s got a heart of gold, and a body to go along with it. He just doesn’t take as much action as some of his robotic counterparts.
