Zack Snyder Promises ‘Physical’ Superman

One of the main complains fans had with Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns was that Superman wasn’t a bad ass. He used his powers, of course, but the Man of Steel wasn’t exactly one for physical confrontation. That’s sure to be different in Zack Snyder‘s reboot of the Superman franchise produced by Christopher Nolan. Snyder talked to SFX and explained why he decided to take the film and promised that the crux of this movie hinges on Superman being physical. Nothing too Earth-shattering, but interesting none the less. Read the quotes after the jump.

Thanks to SFX for not only speaking with Snyder, but actually advancing the conversation in an incremental way. Here’s Snyder:

My feeling about Superman is that I’ve been a fan of the character for a long time. But the question for me was always, ‘What can you do with Superman in a modern world?’ And I think the amazing thing that Chris and David have created, that I’m working on now, and the reason why I was like, ‘Yeah, I’ll do that,’ was that they found that in him. They found the why in him. That’s the exciting part for me.

The magazine then asked him how his version of the character will be different from previous incarnations.

I can’t really talk about that without being kind of specific. But I can say I think Superman needs to be physical.

As we slowly but surely fill in the rest of the Superman cast beyond Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel, we’re sure to also fill in some of the blanks left by Snyder’s statements. What I do get from these statements though, as well as the tons of other vague things he’s said in the past, is that Snyder has a very confident approach to the material. He seems to know what he’s doing. Do you agree?
