'Wrong' - Man Loses Dog, Hilarious And Weird Stuff Happens [Sundance 2012]

Quentin Dupieux's 2010 film Rubber starts off with a monologue explaining that many things in the world, or more specifically in the world of movies, happen for no reason. His follow-up feature Wrong, which had its world premiere at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, is 90 minutes proving that statement. The film is non-stop 'no reason.'

Jesus Organic Pizza, fecal matter memories, indoor rain and transforming palm trees are just some of the madness that occurs around the simple story of a man who loses his dog. But as Wrong gets weirder and weirder scene by scene, you'll find yourself chuckling at the absurdity of it and eventually flat-out falling in love with the film and its mad-cap characters.

Character actor Jack Plotnick (best known for his work on Reno 911) plays Dolph Springer. He's a white, single suburbanite who wakes up one morning to find that his dog is missing. That's literally the most sane thing that happens in the entire film. From there (and actually before too) almost every single thing that Dolph sees and does, and every person he encounters or place he visits is totally out of left field. Even the simple acts of going to work or ordering a pizza are twisted and turned on their head.

Honestly, I can't say too much about Wrong without giving away every single one of the jokes. For example, you wouldn't believe it if I told you what William Fichtner's character did for a living. And because of that, Dupieux's film is kind of a love it or hate it experience. Within ten minutes, if you aren't totally on board with where it's going, Wrong will annoy you to no end. Everything happens in it for no reason other than to just be weird and off-beat. If you buy into that, though, the laughs don't stop, the surprises are incessant and you'd be hard pressed to enjoy a movie more.
