Since we’re looking at the end of Game of Thrones coming in two shortened seasons, HBO needs to find a new show to fill the void that will eventually be left by the absence of the fantasy hit. Thankfully, their TV series adaptation of the sci-fi thriller Westworld written by Michael Crichton looks like it could be their next genre hit.
Westworld is based on 1973 sci fi thriller which took place in a futuristic theme park where paying guests would pretend to be gunslingers in an artificial Wild West populated by advanced androids. But one day, the system goes haywire and the androids begin to rebel against their programming. A new Westworld trailer from HBO shows how the story plays out in a contemporary world where Evan Rachel Wood plays an android who is slowly becoming aware of the twisted world she’s part of as she realizes that she’s not as human as she thought.

The more footage from this show revealed, the more excited I’m getting to see how it turns out. It’s been 43 years since this story hit the big screen, and this contemporary update from executive producer J.J. Abrams and showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy is hitting all the right buttons to make this a remake worth watching.
Plus, let’s not forget that the cast features an impressive and eclectic ensemble that includes Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Tessa Thompson, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Jimmi Simpson, Rodrigo Santoro, Shannon Woodward, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Ben Barnes, Simon Quarterman, Angela Sarafyan, Luke Hemsworth, and Clifton Collins Jr. That’s one hell of a line-up, which could make it hard for the show to continue for an extended period of time, but TV show cast members come and go, and I’m betting plenty won’t make it out of this first season alive.
