Find The Door: 13 'Westworld' Season 2 Questions We Want Answered

Westworld season 2 has just begun, and we already have plenty of questions. Below, we pose the the biggest Westworld season 2 questions that are up in the air at the moment. Spoilers for the show follow.Westworld season 2 has cut back on the puzzle box nature of season 1 ever-so-slightly. With much of the season 1 exposition out of the way, season 2 has been a bit more free to tell a straightforward story. But that doesn't mean there isn't plenty of mystery. After examining the first three episodes of season 2, here are the most pressing questions the show might want to answer sometime soon. If you think you have the answer to any of these, feel free to tell us in the comments. westworld dolores question

Is Dolores really free, or is she merely following pre-programmed orders?

Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) is free and leading her own robot revolution through Westworld. Or is she? It seems like Dolores is awake and aware of her true nature, and committed to freeing her fellow hosts. But the more Dolores carries out her bloody mission, the more I begin to suspect that maybe – just maybe – she's not free at all. And that maybe the late Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins), or someone else, has programmed her to do exactly everything she's doing right now. Which would ultimately be kind of depressing, when you think about it – Dolores has spent all this time thinking she's finally free, only to discover she's not. What a downer! In other words, such a twist would probably fit right in on this show.maeve season 2

How powerful is Maeve?

Mave (Thandie Newton), like Dolores, is awake and aware of her robot nature. But she's on a much different path than Dolores. On top of that, she seems to be much more in control and much more powerful. While Dolores has to shoot her way through Westworld, Maeve has become very powerful. So powerful, in fact, that she can control other hosts. We saw this last season. But in the most recent episode, when Maeve tried to work her magic on members of the Ghost Nation, they ignored her. So, how powerful is Maeve, and how much control does she have over the other hosts? Is there a limit to her power?bernard robot

How can the Delos staff not know Bernard is a host by now?

This may seem trivial, but to me, it's a big one. Charlotte Hale (Tessa Thompson) and everyone else involved with Delos, the company that owns Westworld, has no clue that Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) is a robot. I get that not even Bernard knew this himself until halfway through season 1, but still – it seems that someone – Charlotte, for instance – should've figured this out by now. Especially since Bernard appears to be glitching and malfunctioning the more the season progresses. Yet when we get a glimpse into the future, post-revolution, it's clear that everyone still thinks Bernard is a human.shut up lee

Why is Lee Sizemore still alive?

Ugh, please, can someone kill off smug Westworld writer Lee Sizemore? No offense to actor Simon Quarterman, who is doing the best he can with the character as written, but Lee Sizemore is dead weight. I'm sure the showrunners have some plan for him, or else they wouldn't be keeping him around. In the most recent Westworld episode, members of the Ghost Nation actually tried to abduct Lee, so they clearly want him for some reason. But I honestly can't imagine why anyone would want Lee. Get rid of him, please!peter

Where’s Peter Abernathy?

The latest Westworld episode brings back Dolores' father Peter Abernathy (Louis Herthum), a host that Charlotte is desperate to get her hands on. And even though we see Charlotte and several other members of Delos security finally capture Peter Abernathy in the flashback timeline of season 2, when we see Charlotte in the present (or is it future?) timeline, she admits that Peter Abernathy is gone. At some point, he slipped through her fingers. So where is he?abernathy's head

What did Charlotte upload into Peter Abernathy’s head?

Speaking of Peter Abernathy, just what the heck does he have in his head? Last season, Charlotte uploaded 35 years of data into Abernathy's robot brain with the intention of smuggling the data out of the park. But that backfired, and Peter is now roaming around. But here's the thing: we don't really know what it is that Charlotte uploaded into the host. Whatever it is, it's clearly a big deal. For one thing, Charlotte wants it back at all costs. For another, in the most recent episode, Bernard was able to hack into Peter's head and get a look at the files. What he saw clearly startled him, causing him to whisper, "Oh my god..."the raj

What are the other parks, and how many are there total?

Fans already knew that a new park called Shogun World would be featured this season, but episode 2.03 surprised everyone by revealing yet another park: park 6, AKA The Raj, a recreation of India in the 1930s. We know Westworld is park 1, and Shogun World is park 2. And The Raj is park 6. What are the other parks, and how many are there? Are there 6 parks total, with The Raj being the final one? If so, what are parks 3 through 5? Creators and showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy have hinted at a Medieval World and Roman World in the past (these worlds also appear in the original Westworld movie), but that would still leave at least one park a mystery. Also: how in the hell can Delos afford all these damn parks?westworld grace

Who is Grace?

Episode 2.03 introduced us to a new character: Grace (Katja Herber). At least, that's her name according to press materials. Grace cleary knows her stuff – she's well versed in the way The Raj – the park she's staying at – works. She seems to know all the ins and outs. And she also survives nearly being eaten by a robot tiger to end up in Westworld. What might the future hold for this character, and what will we learn about her?william season 2

What is William is building out in the desert? Is it the “weapon” Dolores mentioned?

At the end of episode 2.02, William (Jimmi Simpson), AKA the younger version of the Man In Black (Ed Harris), shows Dolores...something he's building out in the desert. It's a big, mysterious structure. He refers to it as his "greatest mistake." In the same episode, Dolores reveals she's on the hunt for a weapon that could destroy everyone who gets in her way. The editing of the episode suggests that the "weapon" she's talking about is the same thing that William showed her many years ago. But if so...what is it?man in black season 2

What’s the Man In Black’s new game to “find the door” all about?

The Man In Black is in the midst of a new game set up by the late Robert Ford. We don't have all the details about the game yet, but we know what the objective is: the Man In Black has to "find the door." Great! What the hell does that mean? We don't know yet, but it's probably a big deal. Jonah Nolan and Lisa Joy previously revealed they use nicknames for each individual season of Westworld. The first season was nicknamed "The Maze," and this season is called "The Door". As Jonathan Nolan said:

"If the first season was a journey inward, this is a journey outward. This is a search for what is else is beyond the park, and what else is in the park. Are there more parks? How big is the park? What's beyond the park? We think of our seasons as discrete components in the series, to the point where we've named our seasons. The first season was called 'The Maze.' The second season is called 'The Door.'"

robert ford season 2

Is Robert Ford really dead?

Season 1 ended with Dolores shooting Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins) in the back of the head. Later, we see Ford's rotting, maggot-ridden corpse. So, yes, that seems to imply that he's dead. But what if he's not? What if he somehow recreated himself as a robot, the way he recreated his old partner Arnold as Bernard? What if he's still out there, pulling the strings?westworld ocean

Where did the sea come from?

At the end of the season 1 premiere, the Delos security staff are very, very surprised to discover a big-ass body of water in the middle of Westworld. Someone refers to it as a "sea" that should not be there. Not only that, but the shores are choked with the bodies of possibly hundreds of dead hosts. Bernard confesses that he killed all those hosts, but we're still not really sure what he means or how that happened. And that seems to be secondary to the fact that there's a big, secret sea in the park that shouldn't be there.splendor
