Oscar-winning director Tom Hooper‘s big budget, musical adaptation of Les Miserables made my top ten anticipated films of 2012 because behind all the geek stereotypes, a good musical really gets to me and Les Miserables is one of my favorites. So when I say these newly leaked set videos featuring stars Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway singing are among some of the best I’ve ever seen, it comes from a place of passion.

One of the videos looks to be the grand finale of the story, the reprise of “Do You Hear The People Sing?” performed the entire company. Another is of Jackman’s character, Jean Valjean, storming out of a church singing and a third is of Russell Crowe‘s character Javier, who is hunting Valjean, riding to set on a horse.

Okay, so the videos get less exciting as they go along but they do provide a unique glimpse at the filming of such a massive musical. Check them out after the jump.

Thanks to Collider for finding these videos, which come from Flynet Pictures.

Here’s the best one, the singing of “Do You Hear The People Sing?” from the finale of the movie. It’s not really a spoiler since, from what I can tell, this camera is actually shooting from behind the action so there’s not much to see. All the people on the huge barricade are looking away. Plus I can’t tell where Hathaway and Jackman are being shot from. It’s really more about the song.

Here’s the second video, which features Jackman finishing a song as he runs out of a church.

And finally, Russell Crowe riding around on a horse. This is by far the least exciting but at least it’s Russell Crowe.

These videos explain the set photos that began to leak out in this week including the one at the top of this article. Thanks to Celebuzz.

Les Miserables, based on a novel by Victor Hugo and musical by Claude-Michel Schönberg, opens December 14. Directed by Tom Hooper, it stars Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne, Amanda Seyfried, Sacha Baron Cohen, Aaron Tveit, Samantha Barks, and Helena Bonham Carter. Here’s a plot description:

Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption–a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.
