‘Thor: The Dark World’ Villain Malekith and his Army of Dark Elves Revealed

The last two times we saw Thor on the big screen, he was facing off against his adoptive brother Loki. But in Thor: The Dark World, he’ll be butting heads with a very powerful new villain.
Christopher Eccleston was cast as Malekith the Accursed, ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim, as a replacement for previously attached star Mads Mikkelsen. Now that the first set photos of Eccleston and his eerie horde have hit the web, we have a better idea of what Thor (Chris Hemsworth) will be up against. Check them out after the jump.
The photos come from Splash News and MTV (via Comic Book Movie). Sharp-eyed /Film readers may have noticed that we already featured these snaps on Superhero Bits, but we thought them worth highlighting on their own since they provide our first look at a major character.
For comparison, the top image in this post shows what Malekith looks like in the comic books. The flowing locks are gone in the movie version, and the costume is less colorful, but the half-dark, half-light, all-evil face remains. We’ve previously seen pictures of Thor looking rather banged-up, so we can assume Malekith proves a formidable match for the mighty god.
Thor: The Dark World is shooting in London now for November 8, 2013 release.
Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.
