The existence of Zoolander 2 becomes really interesting when you remember that the first film was not a big hit. Released during a window when no one in the world was in a laughing mood (September 2001), Ben Stiller’s goofy male model comedy only made $60 million worldwide against a budget of $28 million. Zoolander could have remained buried and totally forgotten, but the ensuing years were kind to the film as it developed a huge following on home video. And that’s why, 15 years later, a sequel is on our doorstep.
And now, the final Zoolander 2 trailer has arrived and it brings with it a number of questions. Will this sequel find the box office success that escaped the first film? More importantly, will it prove itself to be a worthy follow-up?

It’s hard to believe it’s been 15 years since the first Zoolander, especially given how well Derek and Hansel’s handsome mugs have aged. Which is to say, not very much at all. Perhaps they’ve been been slathering on some of that Youth Milk from the House of Atoz Beauty Laboratory — the top-of-the-line skincare company spearheaded by Kristen Wiig‘s bizarre beauty guru character, Alexanya Atoz.
The latest Zoolander 2 promo takes the form of a promo for Youth Milk, and it’s the best beauty ad since Derek Zoolander, as the face of Aveda, uttered the immortal line “Moisture is the essence of wetness, and wetness is the essence of beauty.” Watch the Youth Milk ad, plus more Zoolander TV spots, after the jump. When some new TV spots and posters arrived last week, selling Zoolander No. 2 like it was a tantalizing fragrance you could pick up at your local department store, we also pointed out that Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller) and Penelope Cruz had landed on the cover of Vogue. You can check out their photoshoot recreating some famous spreads from the fashion magazine right here, but this video we have today is even better.
Vogue has a video series called 73 Questions where they ask a given personality, you guessed it, 73 questions. And this time the inquisition has Derek Zoolander answering some hard-hitting questions about his favorite season, what’s on his mind, what’s his favorite country, and what happens to models when they retire. Zoolander has the perfect responses for all 73 Questions. Watch! Read More »
One of my most anticipated movies of 2016 is Zoolander No. 2, the sequel to the fashion comedy spawned from a character that first appeared on the VH1 Fashion Awards. The first film is a favorite comedy of mine for being so relentlessly dumb and just plain goofy, with two of the best comedic performances that Ben Stiller and Will Ferrell have ever given. And now we get another whiff of the sequel with some new TV spots, including one that perfectly parodies the always stupid fragrance ads on TV all the time. Read More »
Now that 2015 is over, we’re in a bit of a dead zone for movies with a lot of junk being dumped in January. Usually this period of disappointing options on the big screen lasts through February and into March, but for me, next month brings three of my 10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2016. But what about the rest of the year? Find out what other movies I’m looking forward to with the full list after the jump! Read More »
