Veronica Mars‘ successful Kickstarter campaign opened up a whole new route for TV makers hoping to revive their cancelled series, and Chuck‘s Zachary Levi, for one, hopes to take advantage of it. Meanwhile, one TV maker who wants to stick with a more conventional approach for his next project is Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas himself, who says Party Down will likely take a more conventional path to the big screen. Most of the films from Marvel’s Phase Two slate feature leads carried over from Phase One. Chris Hemsworth has already played Thor twice, as has Chris Evans with Captain America, and Iron Man 3 will actually be Robert Downey Jr.’s fourth turn as the character. But that’s not the case for James Gunn‘s Guardians of the Galaxy, which is currently in the process of assembling an all-new cast.
Last month, the shortlist to play Peter Quill revealed to five contenders: Joel Edgerton, Jack Huston, Jim Sturgess, Lee Pace, and Eddie Redmayne. Now Marvel Studios has narrowed the options down to two. Sturgess is the only one of the original group that remains in contention, while Zachary Levi has emerged as a surprise finalist. More details after the jump.

Zachary Levi is going from the Buy More to Asgard. The star of the cult TV show Chuck is in negotiations to join the cast of Alan Taylor‘s Thor 2 as Fandral, one of the Warriors Three. But wait, you say. Wasn’t that part was played by Josh Dallas in the first film? Correct. However, Dallas now stars on ABC’s hit show Once Upon a Time and had to bow out of the Marvel sequel for that, leaving the door open for Levi. Oddly enough, Levi was reportedly first cast as Fandral in Kenneth Branagh’s Thor but his show Chuck got picked up for another season and he had to do that. Now the roles are reversed. Disney’s next animated film is Tangled, which retells the classic Rapunzel story with a distinctly Pirates of the Caribbean, ‘maybe boys will see this’ vibe. We’ve seen a couple of teasers, some clips and plenty of art from the film. Now there’s a full trailer, which gives a much better idea of what the film might actually be like. Read More »
Cool Posts From Around the Web:
Walt Disney Animation Studios has released a new teaser trailer for their 50th full-length animated feature Tangled.
Directed by Byron Howard & Nathan Greno (the co-director and head of story on Bolt respectively), this new telling of the classic fairy tale Rapunzel (the original title of the film), will transport audiences “to a stunning CG fantasy world complete with the iconic tower, an evil witch, a gallant hero and, of course, the mysterious girl with the long golden tresses. Expect adventure, heart, humor, and hair, lots of hair.” The lead heroine is voiced by Mandy Moore while Chuck‘s Zachary Levi will play a “dashing bandit” named Flynn Ryder who hits the road with the “rebellious, teenage hair apparent.”
I’m definitely digging the watercolor/storybook-look they are employing with this new film. And the trailer is definitely playing up the prince’s character, likely in an effort to appeal to more boys. Watch the trailer now embedded after the jump. Please leave your thoughts in the comments below.
