For years now, Hulu has been a boon to cord-cutters. As long as you’re willing to wait a bit for new episodes and then sit through lots of ads when they do, Hulu is the rare place to watch TV online legally and for free. Or at least it was until now. The company has announced it’s moving to an all-subscription model, eliminating ad-supported free streaming altogether.
However, there’s no need for panic just yet. While Hulu is getting rid of free streaming, Yahoo is launching Yahoo View, a service which will provide recent episodes with ads but for free, just like Hulu used to. Read More »

Yahoo Screen saved Community, but it seems Community couldn’t save Yahoo Screen. Yahoo has confirmed it’s shutting down the streaming video platform, which launched two years ago to house both original and syndicated programming. Back in June, we reported that the former NBC comedy series Community could end up getting another season at Yahoo after it was saved from cancellation and turned into a web series. However, it appears that possibility just went out the window.
Series star Joel McHale recently said in an interview that the profile of the cast members has grown significantly since the series premiered six years ago, and Yahoo simply can’t afford to pay the cast what they should be earning anymore. At one point, “six seasons and a movie” sounded like an amusingly preposterous goal. After all, Community that found itself on the brink of cancellation every single year. But now the first half of the prophecy is about to be fulfilled thanks to Yahoo, and Yahoo would really like to remind you of that fact. Especially that last part.
The first Community Season 6 trailer has hit, and while it’s light on new footage it’s heavy on the hype. According to the video, this new season will be “better, stronger, faster.” Watch it after the jump.

Still basking in the grateful admiration of Community fans the world over, Yahoo is now looking to save another beloved cult series. The site is reportedly considering a second season of the Fox comedy Enlisted, which was axed in May after nine highly praised but poorly rated episodes. #SixSeasonsandaMovie isn’t yet a dead idea. NBC canceled Dan Harmon‘s show Community earlier this year, but it seemed like there was still a chance that it would end up with a new home. Talks with Hulu didn’t go anywhere, but Yahoo wants a show — and now Yahoo has the sixth (and last?) season of Community.
