Hall H never has any shortage of cool reveals, and this year’s Disney panel definitely delivered on that front. Among the treats they had to offer was the very first trailer for Sam Raimi‘s Oz: The Great and Powerful, a prequel to L. Frank Baum‘s Wizard of Oz. While it’s way too soon to judge the movie as a whole, I can say without hesitation that the footage so far looks utterly gorgeous.
The trailer showing was followed by a quick Q&A session featuring Raimi and two of his stars, Michelle Williams and Mila Kunis. Watch the new promo and read some choice quotes after the jump.

I have good news and bad news. The good news first: Robert Zemeckis is making another move back towards live-action. The bad news: it might be with a remake of The Wizard of Oz, which Warner Bros. is attempting to assemble. And while this might not be a shot for shot remake a la Gus Van Sant and Psycho, the idea is awfully close, as the studio wants to use the script from the 1939 version. Read More »
If you’ve been reading /Film for a while, then you know that I love good movie-inspired art. And the superbowl of movie art is Crazy4Cult, an art show put on every year by Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles. This year’s show will open on July 9th, and we have seen the first batch of artwork premiere online. For years I’ve been writing about the show, and posting and buying the art online. I’m super excited because this year I’ll be able to attend the event since I now live in Los Angeles.

According to a new piece at The LA Times, Warner Bros. are currently looking to push ahead with one of their two, long-in-development takes on the Wonderful Wizard of Oz story; meanwhile, Collider are reporting that no movement has been made on either project in over a year and that the Times piece is simply repackaging old information with no real reason to be doing so right now. In fact, they even call it ‘hit whoring’.
Who’s right? I guess we’ll have to wait and see if there’s any action in the next few weeks or so, but I personally wouldn’t be surprised to find Warners chasing after Alice in Wonderland‘s big box office with the nearest thing in reach.
The two projects supposedly in contention are the Josh Olson version, and another one from Darren Lemke, writer on the upcoming fourth Shrek as well as Bryan Singer’s Jack the Giant Killer and a New Line take on The Nutcracker.
Meanwhile, Universal have their Wicked film (based on the Oz-related musical of the same name) somewhere along the pipe, and there’s also a John Boorman-directed CG version of Oz that hasn’t been heard of for a while, though is still said to be progressing, if slowly. The future is looking more than a little Baumy.
