Heroes in mo-cap, CG power! After a few days of Megan Fox on the set of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the stars of the film have finally surfaced from the sewer. Actors Noel Fisher (Michelangelo) Jeremy Howard (Donatello) and Pete Ploszek (Leonardo) have been spotted on the set of the Jonathan Liebesman film in full motion-capture garb.
Of course, we’ve all seen what motion capture suits look like before, but there are a few subtle differences here. First, the motion capture is being done outside and not on a closed set; that’s a technique that was revolutionized on Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Second, each actor has a massive mo-cap shell on their back. And third, they’re all sporting arm bands to corrospond to their character’s color.
But wait there’s more! The photos also reveal our first look at what is seems to be Shredder’s Foot Soldiers, and even a major plot point.
Update: Deadline adds that William Fichtner has joined the cast, playing an unidentified lead role “with iconic stature in the Turtles’ mythology.”

In conjunction with yesterday’s new domestic trailer for Gore Verbinski‘s The Lone Ranger, a new international trailer has also hit the web. While this one gets into the plot a little bit — Tonto’s (Johnny Depp) reaction to meeting the Lone Ranger (Armie Hammer) is a highlight — its focus is really on the action. The first two character posters for The Lone Ranger highlighted two figures we already know pretty well — the Lone Ranger (Armie Hammer) and Tonto (Johnny Depp) — but now the marketing team has moved on to some other folks we’re not quite so familiar with.
Helena Bonham Carter‘s Red, Ruth Wilson‘s Rebecca Reid, and William Fichtner‘s Butch Cavendish each get a turn in the spotlight, along with a pithy description explaining more about their characters. “Can’t Find The Luxury You Deserve On Earth? Look No Further Than Elysium”
Sony’s viral marketing campaign for District 9 helmer Neill Blomkamp‘s second feature film Elysium might have been the most interesting thing I encountered on the show floor on preview night at Comic Con 2012. They had an border checkpoint booth with a human-shaped automated system to find out if you qualify for homes on Elysium — a pristine man made spaceship oasis for the super rich. The film takes place 150-or-so years in the future where the Earth is overpopulated and ruined, and the rich live on this luxury space station protected by intense anti-immigration laws. The booth at Comic Con contained a bunch of photos of what your home on Elysium could look like, and flyers full of sales information. The flyer points to a website, itsbetterupthere.com, which allows you to apply to become a citizen of Elysium. I know there’s something about Quentin Dupieux‘s films that rub people the wrong way, but I have a deep affection for the absurdity of Rubber. (I haven’t yet had a chance to see his new feature, Wrong.) I get great enjoyment from his irreverent, slightly pretentious take on film.
And so I’ll give some time to what is effectively an ad for the musical half of his career, in which Dupieux performs as Mr. Oizo. He’s got a new record out, and to promote it Dupieux enlisted the aid of one of his actors from Wrong, William Fichtner. Since I have even more fondness for Fichtner, I’m happy to see him struggling through a chess game against a distracted puppet, in the clip that follows. Read More »
For The Lone Ranger, Disney is working with tactics that are almost exactly opposite to what Warner Bros. did with its own new Johnny Depp vehicle, Dark Shadows. The Lone Ranger just started shooting, and we’ve already got the first image of Depp as Tonto and Armie Hammer (The Social Network, J. Edgar) as the title character. Check it out in full below. Dwight Yoakum is out and William Fichtner is in. The talented character actor who is perhaps best known for his short but sweet scene at the beginning of The Dark Knight has been cast as the villain in Gore Verbinski’s 2013 Disney action film Lone Ranger opposite Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp as the Ranger and Tonto.
