The new Trumbo trailer features all of the things you love about the movies. Bryan Cranston with an awesome mustache. Helen Mirren scheming while rocking some serious old school fashion. John Goodman yelling and smashing things. The mere presence of character actors like Michael Stuhlbarg and Alan Tudyk. And that’s before you get to the exactingly recreated 1950s Hollywood setting and the fact that Dalton Trumbo‘s life story is genuinely thrilling stuff.

We’re well past the midpoint of the year, and we’ve already delivered our list of the Top 10 Films of 2015 So Far. And as we reach the end of the summer, the movie business starts slowing down, giving a little calm before the storm that is awards season. Although Bryan Cranston‘s been plenty busy over the past few years, he hasn’t actually been seen in a lead role onscreen since Breaking Bad. So it’s nice to see him take the spotlight again in Trumbo, Jay Roach‘s drama about Hollywood at the height of anti-Communist fervor.
Cranston plays Spartacus and Roman Holiday screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, who was blacklisted from the industry due to his political beliefs. Helen Mirren, Diane Lane, Louis C.K., Elle Fanning, Michael Stuhlbarg, and John Goodman also star. Watch the Trumbo trailer after the jump. Read More »
Bryan Cranston is bringing a shameful nexus of entertainment and politics to life once again in the movie Trumbo.
Following the conclusion of Breaking Bad, Bryan Cranston has been seen in Godzilla, and his biggest achievement has probably been a portrayal of Lyndon B. Johnson in the play All the Way. That led to an HBO movie version of the play in which Cranston again plays the title role. But that’s not his only stint playing a significant figure from 20th Century American history. Bryan Cranston has seen his popularity soar over the last couple years as Breaking Bad has reached an ever-larger audience. He’s at the crest of that wave right now as we approach the final two episodes of the show, which will end the saga of his character Walter White with longer-than-usual installments.
Cranston has spent the downtime between seasons doing supporting roles in many film projects, and with his Breaking Bad duties nearly over he’ll be free to take more than a few leading roles.
