Transformers box office

Full disclosure: I have not seen Transformers: The Last Knight. (I’m currently listening to the /Filmcast’s highly entertaining review of it.) But just because I haven’t seen the movie yet, that doesn’t preclude me from exploring its box office performance and attempting to draw some conclusions about where the Transformers franchise might go from here.

Transformers The Last Knight Credits Scene

Transformers: The Last Knight is in theaters now and pretty much everyone agrees that it’s quite an insane sequel. It’s packed full of so many characters, exposition, and craziness that you kind of need to see it for yourself. Only adding to that insanity is a mid-credits that that sets up sequels, though much like the movie, it doesn’t make much sense.

Let’s talk about the Transformers The Last Knight credits scene and what it means for the future of the franchise, but beware of spoilers for the sequel if you haven’t seen it yet. Read More »

michael bay

Without question, one of my favorite parts of my job is the Michael Bay stories. If somebody has worked with him, they usually have a good story to tell. Few filmmakers, if any, direct and act like Michael Bay. He’s one in a million, which is maybe why his movies tend to make hundreds of millions of dollars.

Someone else who has some great stories to tell about Michael Bay? Michael Bay. The filmmaker (and huge dog lover) usually discusses his work and collaborators with candor. His commentaries, for example, are highly entertaining. After listening to all of them and devouring his movie’s extensive bonus features – and having my mind consumed by Bayhem – I decided it was time to compile a list of the best Michael Bay stories…as told by Michael Bay.

Below, get to know the director of Transformers: The Last Knight a little more intimately.

Transformers Franchise Recap

Transformers: The Last Knight is already playing in theaters around the world, but since most of the country isn’t heading out to see the movie until this weekend, there’s no better time to recap the history of Transformers in Michael Bay’s big screen franchise.

In the latest installment of the Transformers franchise, we learn from Sir Anthony Hopkins that there’s an entire secret history of Autobots working with humans through pretty much every time period of civilization. Thankfully, a new video recap reminds us everything we learned about the Transformers’ time on Earth, and it should come as no surprise to see that the new movie basically ignores all of that while trying to expand the mythology as well.

transformers: the last knight box-office

Michael Bay‘s Transformers: The Last Knight had the lowest grossing opening day for any film in the 10-year-old franchise. The massive sequel, which has received terrible reviews but a fine Cinemascore, is still on track to make $65 million over the next five days. According to box-office analysts, it’ll fall short of expectations.

Meanwhile, the film’s star, Mark Wahlberg, believes Bay might come back to the franchise. Below, read his comments on the filmmaker and learn about the lower Transformers: The Last Knight box office numbers.

Transformers The Last Knight reviews

Paramount Pictures held the embargo for Transformers: The Last Knight until 7pm EST today, which is the same time the first public screenings were scheduled in theaters across the country. That’s not a tactic the studio usually takes, but considering the critical beating they received with Baywatch not too long ago, I suppose it’s not too much of a surprise.

So will Michael Bay’s latest Transformers film fare any better with critics? Come on, you and I both already know the answer to that question. Join me below to read a selection of some newly-published Transformers The Last Knight reviews and see just how much critics despise this film.

Mark Wahlberg Leaving Transformers

Earlier this year, Michael Bay indicated that Transformers: The Last Knight would be his farewell to the franchise based on the Hasbro toy sensation. This is something that he’s said several times before, only to get behind the camera again for another sequel, but this time it feels like he’s telling the truth, unless someone comes up with a cool spin-off idea that he can’t resist.

Following in Michael Bay’s footsteps, it appears that one franchise star may also be stepping away from the action spectacle film series. In a recent interview, Mark Wahlberg seems to reveal that he will also be done with Transformers after The Last Knight, though his wording makes it difficult to be definitive on the matter.

No matter how much shade gets thrown at Michael Bay, you can’t deny that the director knows how to create big screen spectacle. It may not always come with a coherent story, especially in the Transformers franchise, but the filmmaker uses state of the art tools to create some of the most bombastic blockbuster action that the big screen has ever seen and IMAX helps him make the wild images in his head a reality.
