Jerry Bruckheimer is going back to the studio he ruled in the Eighties. After ending a very successful development deal with Disney earlier this year, it was announced the mega-producer is driving down the hill and signing a new deal with Paramount, the studio Bruckheimer made his home in the 1980s, and where he developed such mega-hits as Flashdance, Top Gun and Beverly Hills Cop. Sequels to the latter two are among his first new priorities. Read More »

Beverly Hills Cop(1)

People under the age of 25 might be too young to remember what the names “Simpson/Bruckheimer” meant when appearing in front of a movie. With films like Top Gun, Beverly Hills Cop, Days of Thunder, Bad Boys, The Rock, odds were if Jerry Bruckheimer and the late Don Simpson produced a movie in the Eighties or Nineties, it was awesome. After Simpson’s passing in 1996, Bruckheimer did his best to carry on the legacy. In recent years, he has faltered.

With one of Bruckheimer’s biggest films now delayed, the producer is turning his attention back to another franchise he helped create. Variety reports despite not having anything to do with Beverly Hills Cop III or the failed TV pilot, Bruckheimer is in talks to produce Beverly Hills Cop IV. He’s also still working on Top Gun 2 and developing Bad Boys 3, among other things. Read More »

Jerry Bruckheimer

Top Gun 2 was put on hold last year following the tragic death of director Tony Scott, but now the project is slowly but surely getting back on track. “For 30 years we’ve been trying to make a sequel and we’re not going to stop,” producer Jerry Bruckheimer said at this weekend’s Produced By conference.

But before that, he’ll be ushering this summer’s The Lone Ranger into theaters. And while he’s got high hopes that the Gore Verbinski-directed Western will eventually yield a sequel as well, it’ll first have to prove its worth to moviegoers against some tough summer competition. “It’s always up to the audience,” he said. Hit the jump to read further comments from Bruckheimer on Top Gun 2 and The Lone Ranger.

In the wake of the tragic suicide of director/producer Tony Scott, there was some small murmuring about the future of Top Gun 2. Scott had been developing the sequel to his 1986 hit along with Tom Cruise, David Ellison’s Skydance Productions, and Paramount. And while the news one the film was hitting the web at a slow trickle, there was no doubt that the film was moving forward.

Without Scott, however, that seems to have changed. Paramount converted Top Gun to 3D, in part to prime audiences for the sequel, and is now trying to figure out how to release that film even as the sequel is stalled out. Read More »
