The fact that the first Expendables was an R-rated affair didn’t stop it from underwhelming some, so Sly’s confirmation that Expendables 2 will be R, not PG-13, after all still isn’t a guarantee of quality — but it probably helps. Also after the jump:
- Watch a trailer for the Starship Troopers: Invasion, the animated sequel
- Men in Black 3 drops a new promo image.
- TRON: Legacy orchestrator Joe Trapanese will return for TRON: Uprising

Men in Black 3 had a complicated production schedule, as the story, concocted by Will Smith, hadn’t been fully scripted when the shoot started, leading to an extended break to finish writing the movie before starting up again. Director Barry Sonnenfeld recently talked about that, saying, “We knew starting the movie that we didn’t have a finished second or third act. Was it responsible? The answer is, if this movie does as well as I think it will, it was genius. If it’s a total failure, then it was a really stupid idea.”
We’ve seen one trailer for the film, but it didn’t show all that much. That may have been an intentional tease in part, but it was probably also due to a lot of the effects being unfinished. There’s a new trailer that now shows a lot more. And though some of the effects remain unfinished (check out that big green panel thirty seconds in) this time we get a lot more of the film’s time-travel plot, a lot more aliens, and a good look at Josh Brolin playing the young version of Tommy Lee Jones‘ Agent K.

Apparently, this tradition of each sequel going bigger than the last isn’t just a Hollywood thing. It seems the folks behind that Avatar-defeating Chinese softcore film 3D Sex and Zen are determined to get even wilder this time around, and they’ve figured out just the way to do it. After the jump:
- 3D Sex and Zen’s sequel ups the ante by going 4D
- Some photos and quotes from Star Trek 2
- The Da Vinci Code sequel The Lost Symbol finds a writer
- Men in Black 3 will get a new trailer next week, has new photos now

If Lindsay Lohan seems like less than ideal casting for the role of Elizabeth Taylor in Lifetime’s Liz and Dick, how does Megan Fox strike you? In a talk with E!, executive producer Larry Thompson named the Transformers actress as one of the other names up for the lead. “I’ve been talking to Lindsay Lohan directly, and with her reps, and have been in conversations with other actresses, including Megan Fox,” he said. “It’s a very serious selection…. It’s like casting for Hollywood royalty.”
It’s unclear how seriously Fox is considering the part. While she’s not the most respected actress around, she’s got a couple of interesting movie roles coming up this year — Jennifer Westfeldt’s Friends With Kids and Judd Apatow’s This is Forty — and a Lifetime original movie seems like it’d be a step down for her. Whatever the decision, though, it’ll have to be made soon as Liz and Dick is scheduled to begin shooting in Canada this spring. [via The Playlist]
After the jump, Tommy Lee Jones is a legendary American hero and Shirley MacLaine is Ben Stiller’s mom.

As we head toward the Oscars and therefore the end of awards season, it’s time to take a better look at some of the films we’re anticipating from 2012. We have for you today an eclectic mix of photos from some of the entertainments we’re most looking forward to, from Gary Ross‘ deadly serious YA adaptation The Hunger Games to Judd Apatow‘s almost-middle-age comedy This is Forty and everything in between. Check out photos for those films plus The Gangster Squad, Men in Black III, and Frankenweenie after the jump.

Here’s the trailer for Men in Black 3, the troubled production that puts Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones back in the severe suits of the alien-policing government agency. The film also features Josh Brolin as a young version of Jones’ agent K, and as we see here, it’s possible that Brolin’s impersonation of Jones will at least be dead-on. As for the rest of the film, the trailer suggests that we’ll see a very deliberate recreation of the formula that made the first film a big hit. Check it out below. Read More »

Despite the fact that the word “trailer” is used four times in the title of the post, we don’t have any actual trailers for you here — just some quick bits of information about trailers. That’s almost as good, right? No? Well, too bad. After the jump:
- The trailer for Men in Black III debuts Monday
- The Prometheus trailer gets a 14A rating — the Canadian equivalent to a hard PG-13
- The first Rock of Ages trailer will debut with Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

Cool Posts From Around the Web:
Here are the first teaser posters for Sony’s Men in Black 3, the sequel that was strangely split into two parts while shooting. The movie brings Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones back into the alien-policing fold while also serving up a time-travel storyline that features Josh Brolin and a host of strange cameos. We haven’t seen an official image yet, much less a trailer, but if you really want something official these two very early teaser posters will have to do.
The two posters don’t tell us much beyond the basic fact of the film’s existence. They don’t even reference the fact of the film being in 3D. Check them out below.
Update: We’ve got HR versions of both posters now. Read More »
