In almost every actor’s career there comes a time to make a clean-cut family tearjerker, and it seems that time has really come for John Krasinski, Drew Barrymore, Tim Blake Nelson, Stephen Root and many more as they take part in Big Miracle. The film finds Krasinski as a TV journalist stuck in small-town Alaska who discovers three whales trapped in the ice off the coast. Everyone with a soul, from townspeople to the big, bad Soviets, rallies to get the whales back to open water, and enough sympathetic, happy tears will probably be shed in the audience to create a new little whale habitat in every multiplex.

It’s “cool projects for former The Shield actors” day! We just heard that Michael Chiklis will be the bad guy in Taylor Hackford’s Parker, and now Walton Goggins has been cast in Steven Spielberg‘s Lincoln. He’s the latest addition to a monster of a cast that begins with Daniel Day Lewis as the sixteenth President of the US and includes many more. We’ll recap the cast after the break. Read More »

Steven Spielberg is a busy man, and while his plans to finally make an Abraham Lincoln biopic were announced late last year, we’ve had little news since. We know that Daniel Day Lewis would play the title role, and that Sally Field will be Mary Todd, but other than that, there has been very little to report. That changes today with the addition of Tommy Lee Jones and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and a big list of other actors who are all in talks now. More details are after the break. Read More »

It’s way too early to get overly interested in the idea of further Hulk movies. Until The Avengers is done, we don’t know if Marvel and Universal have any further plans for standalone films. But while we know for certain that we’ll never see Spider-Man‘s Dylan Baker live out the second half of his character arc, there’s at least a slight chance that we could see Tim Blake Nelson from The Incredible Hulk turn out to be the mutated, villainous Leader. The actor is still very interested in the role; read what he’s got to say about it after the break. Read More »

Tim Blake Nelson Joins Whales

Tim Blake Nelson has signed on to join Drew Barrymore, John Krasinski , and Kristen Bell in Ken Kwapis‘ (The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants,  He’s Just Not That Into You) big screen adaptation of Whales. Based on Tom Rose’s nonfiction book “Freeing the Whales: How the Media Created the World’s Greatest Non-Event” about three California Gray whales who were discovered imprisoned in the Arctic ice in 1988, and media madness that spawned around the rescue which “captured the imaginations of hundreds of millions of people.” The project was formerly titled “Everybody Loves Whales”. THR reports that Nelson will play a wildlife expert who works in the wildlife-management office.

thomas-dekker-footloose

Because I know that casting news on the delayed remake of Footloose is what you’re all more hungry for than anything else, here’s the only casting note that matters this week: Thomas Dekker (Heroes, Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles, Kaboom, A Nightmare on Elm Street) is apparently the latest top candidate to play ‘Two Degrees of Kevin Bacon,’ as, if cast, he’d step into the shoes of Bacon’s classic character from the original film.

Zac Efron and Chace Crawford have both been linked to the film, but in the last few months they’ve passed, and the directorial baton has been handed from Kenny Ortega to Craig Brewer. This isn’t hard and fast casting, though, so there’s still a chance  (There’s also an open casting call for guys 18 and up to play high schoolers.) [LAT]

After the break, better news, because it doesn’t involve the Footloose remake. Read More »
