Doctor Strange has been hovering near the top of Marvel’s to-do list for years, but there still hasn’t been a whole lot of visible movement on it. While Kevin Feige has said that he “definitely” wants to include the Sorcerer Supreme in Phase Three of the Cinematic Universe, the studio has yet to officially announce the project, let alone a release date, director, or star.
But a few years ago, they did get the wheels turning by hiring Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer to pen the first draft of the script. And now the details of that screenplay are supposedly starting to leak out. Not surprisingly, it’s an origin story. Get the latest rumors on the story after the jump.

The character, an arrogant surgeon injured in an accident who becomes the guardian of the spiritual side of the Marvel Universe, has been teased on lists of possible projects, and last summer Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer were hired to script. In the off again, on again relationship between Hollywood and Voltron, it seems the film might actually be on again. A pair of awesome concept images have just surfaced attached to an upcoming pitch by Atlas Entertainment. Screenwriters Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer (Conan, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune) are reportedly part of the deal and if these images are any indication, it seems like they are certainly on the right track. In October of 2008 Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige talked about the studio’s desire to develop a film centered around Dr. Strange. He said, “I’d say in the next year, year and a half, as we start putting together our film slate for 2012 and 2013, I would not be shocked if we saw Dr. Strange on those lists.”
As much as I’d like to see Mr. Feige in ‘shocked’ mode, this isn’t the time. It’s a year and a half later, and Dr. Strange is indeed on active development lists: Marvel has hired Conan screenwriters Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer to write a film centered around Marvel’s ‘sorcerer supreme.’ Read More »
