Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill in 21 Jump Street

Mark your calendars. Sony has just set a June 6, 2014 release date for 21 Jump Street 2, starring Jonah Hill and Channing TatumPhil Lord and Chris Miller will be back to direct the comedy sequel, which will see the undercover cops heading to college.

Sony also dated two other big summer movies for 2014. They already have The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opening on May 2 but they also dated Think Like A Man Too, the sequel to Tim Story comedy starring Kevin Hart, for June 20 and Sex Tape, Jake Kasdan‘s comedy starring Jason Segel and Cameron Diaz as a couple whose homemade video goes mainstream, for July 2. That last one is a huge vote of confidence for the comedy, as it’ll open on one of the busiest weekends of the year, opposite Disney’s Maleficent. Jump Street opens against the new Ninja Turtles. Fantastic Four and Barbershop director Tim Story is going back to work after not having a film on big screens since the 2009 picture Hurricane Season. He’ll direct Kevin Hart in Think Like a Man, which is based on Steve Harvey‘s book Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man: What Men Really Think About Love, Relationships, Intimacy and Commitment. Mr. Hart will be “a self-professed relationship expert who is quick to give advice to his crew of friends, even as his own marriage heads toward divorce.” The book has sold well, but I expect this will draw a different crowd from either Tim Story’s Fantastic Four films or Hurricane Season.
