The conflicts in Afghanistan and Pakistan are no laughing matter, but that’s what makes Whiskey Tango Foxtrot look like such an intriguing and promising concept. Based on journalist Kim Barker‘s wartime memoir The Taliban Shuffle, the film follows Tina Fey as an American reporter who decides to take her talents to the Middle East for the first time, learning first-hand the challenges of being a woman in the area.

While most movies have scrambled to get the hell away from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Tina Fey‘s new comedy Sisters planted a flag on December 18, 2015 last year and hasn’t budged. “We said we’d only do the movie if it opened against Star Wars,” joked Fey’s co-star Amy Poehler. “We are going to fucking crush Star Wars.”
And while that prediction seems, uh, pretty far-fetched, Fey apparently isn’t intimidated by Disney’s other upcoming offerings, either. She’ll face off against the studio again in March, as her upcoming Afghanistan War comedy (formerly titled Taliban Shuffle) has just staked out a release against Disney’s Zootopia. Read More »

Between Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock, and her Golden Globes hosting stints, Tina Fey‘s TV career is nothing short of stellar. But her track record with movies has been somewhat spottier. Sure, Mean Girls is a classic and Date Night wasn’t bad, but Baby Mama and Admission were both forgettable duds, and the jury’s still out on Muppets Most Wanted.
Thankfully, her newest role sounds fairly promising. Fey is attached to star in and produce Paramount’s The Taliban Shuffle, scripted by a 30 Rock writer, based on a journalist’s memoir of her time in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Hit the jump for more details on this latest gig.
