If you read /Film on a regular basis, you know that we love cool movie posters. And out of everyone on the site, I think I’m probably the most obsessed. I’m always scouring galleries and websites for awesome posters based on pop culture to add to my ever growing addiction collection. So, I’m really digging this set of posters called Dress the Part. It’s 10 posters of some of your favorite films, but solely of famous fashion from the film. Included in the set are American Psycho, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Dumb and Dumber, Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas, Shaun of the Dead, Superman, The Shining, The Usual Suspects, Top Gun, and Wall Street. Burbank-born artist Carlos Ramos (storyboard artist and writer on Dexter’s Labratory, ChalkZone, My Life as a Teenage Robot, The X’s, and Ni Hao Kai-lan) is presenting a solo exhibition of his Stanley Kubrick-inspired artwork at the Copro Gallery from July 10th until August 3rd.
11 years after the death of Stanley Kubrick, Ramos pays homage to the man who wrote and directed such films as A Clockwork Orange, Dr. Strangelove, The Shining and 2001: A Space Odyssey by transforming the galley into a retrospective space with graphic pieces celebrating the greatest and most respected filmmaker in history. Ramos faces his longtime obsession with Kubrick by painting interpretations of his films including the white-on-white habitations of 2001 to the Native American carpet patterns of The Shining to the matching white Droog uniforms in A Clockwork Orange. The emptiness and humanity of Stanley Kubrick’s subjects and characters and unique spacial design come to life thru Ramos’ unique eye.
I’m not sure if they will be releasing any limited edition prints of this art, but I hope so. You can see a preview of some of the art which will be on display at the show, after the jump. Warning, some of the art is NSFW.

What if you took Stanley Kubrick‘s The Shining and mashed it up with Steven Spielberg‘s E.T.? It might look something like today’s t-shirt from TeeFury. Designed by Joao Lauro Fonte, “The Shining Finger” is “the cross-over you’ve never known you needed in your life until now!”

Next month, one of my favorite independent and more outspoken directors of late, Ti West, will begin shooting a follow-up to last year’s breakout hit about Satanic Panic The House of The Devil. Filming on location in Connecticut (where THotD was also shot) and entitled The Innkeepers, the film is said to follow “the last two staffers at a hotel that’s going out of business”—a hotel that may have ghostly occupants. When I previously emailed West to see if The Shining would be an influence and whether the film addresses “reality” tv shows like Ghost Hunters, he wrote back: “This movie incorporates and comments on the trend of those type shows etc. but is also a very classic ghost story. I’m psyched. I think it blends the classic ghost story style with a solid modern twist. It will be really fun, fresh and scary.”
In a new chat with FearNet at SXSW, where West was speaking on a horror panel, he dished out more tidbits on the project. The haunted hotel that’s central to the story is actually the same hotel he and his crew stayed at while making THotD, and the plot will be informed by “a lot of [his] experiences there.” Similar to what he shared with /Film, West goes on to say The Innkeepers will be scarier than THotD, will also have a healthy number of jokes, and will “definitely be more commercial than THotD” but with an “indie sensibility that will make it unique.”

Designer Chris Dimino created a cuckoo clock themed after Stanley Kubrick‘s classic The Shining. Dimino was challenged to create a cuckoo clock in which the clock itself, the cuckoo motion, sound, and the pendulum capture a moment in time fitting these elements to a concept. The solution was the classic moment from The Shining in which Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrance comes crashing through the door wielding an ax.
The clock mimics the moment from the film, and every hour Jack breaks through the door and the famous line “Here’s Johnny” plays followed by a scream by Shining co-star Shelly Duvall. Check out the full clock after the jump.
