punisher trailer

After months of playing the waiting game, fans of The Punisher can finally discover the Marvel-Netflix series’ release date thanks to a new trailer that has been dropped.

The new The Punisher trailer is much more comprehensive than past promotional materials have been — this was perhaps the preview that was going to be revealed at the New York Comic-Con before the panel was cancelled in the wake of the Las Vegas mass shooting. While there were rumblings that the unofficial premiere of The Punisher — which was reported to be in October — was delayed in the aftermath of the shooting, Marvel did promise that the anticipated superhero series starring Jon Bernthal as the antihero vigilante would be released this year. And you only had to wait one more month.

the punisher new york comic con

Update: It seems that Netflix originally planned a surprise release date for The Punisher (its release date was intentionally obscured in all promotional materials) this month, with some stories suggesting that the show would drop as early as this weekend. However, in addition to pulling the series from NYCC, the surprise release date has been postponed as well. No release date has been set, but the series is still expected to premiere in 2017.

The Punisher New York Comic Con panel has been cancelled by Marvel and Netflix in the wake of Sunday’s mass shooting in Las Vegas.

The panel was initially scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 7, but the superhero television series, which follows a gun-toting vigilante, was pulled from NYCC out of respect for the 58 victims killed in the shooting.

The Punisher release date

The trailers and ads for The Punisher have been chock full of violence, gore, and intrigue, but they’re all missing one thing: the release date.

Marvel and Netflix have been frustratingly withholding of the newest street-hero series’ premiere date, following Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders. But it may be thanks to an innocuous write-up of the upcoming first season that we may finally know The Punisher release date.

the punisher trailer

Jon Bernthal‘s Frank Castle was the highlight of the uneven Daredevil season 2. Marvel’s unhinged vigilante can be a tough nut to crack (and incredibly boring when cracked incorrectly), but this take on the character, deranged and broken and terrifying, felt like a home run. At least it felt like a home run during his limited screen time in a show about another Marvel hero. Now, we’ll have to see if he can hold up in an entire series built around him.

The first full The Punisher trailer has arrived online, offering an extended look at the latest Marvel series hitting Netflix this year.
