The Nutcracker and the Four Realms is almost finished baking, but it needs a little extra sugar before it makes its way to theaters. Like any big-budget tentpole that relies heavily on CGI effects, there are significant reshoots planned for Disney’s adaptation of the E.T.A. Hoffmann fairytale and Tchaikovsky ballet.

However, because the film’s original director Lasse Hallstrom is unable to complete them due to scheduling issues, Disney has brought on Joe Johnston, the director of The Rocketeer, Jumanji, and Captain America: The First Avenger.

The first look at the House of Mouse’s adaptation of the classic ballet is like if The Chronicles of Narnia met Alice in Wonderland, an epic fantasy. In other words, a visually opulent fairy tale with a lot of snow. And Keira Knightley is wearing a giant pink wig.

D23 Expo 2017

This past weekend, our own Peter Sciretta journeyed to the 2017 D23 Expo to learn all about the various movies Disney and its many partners will be bringing us over the next few years. ‘Star Wars: Episode 9’ Will Be Shot On 65mm Film

Collin Trevorrow‘s Star Wars: Episode 9 will be shot with 65mm film cameras, a move away from the 35mm film format that JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson used on the previous two installments. The result will probably be a higher resolution image that shows more detail, making it more suitable for projection on larger screens like IMAX (which has its own format).
