The Lone Ranger

The first two character posters for The Lone Ranger highlighted two figures we already know pretty well — the Lone Ranger (Armie Hammer) and Tonto (Johnny Depp) — but now the marketing team has moved on to some other folks we’re not quite so familiar with.

Helena Bonham Carter‘s Red, Ruth Wilson‘s Rebecca Reid, and William Fichtner‘s Butch Cavendish each get a turn in the spotlight, along with a pithy description explaining more about their characters. And it’s a good thing, too, since they don’t get much to do in the latest TV spot. Hit the jump for the new posters and video.

The Lone Ranger

Odds are you’re already plenty familiar with the Lone Ranger and Tonto, who’ve been kicking around the pop cultural landscape for the better part of a century. And you probably also have a fairly good idea of what Gore Verbinski‘s done with the characters in the upcoming The Lone Ranger film, thanks to all the promos and stills we’ve seen so far.

But in case you want to get even more up close and personal with the iconic Western duo, Disney has just released a pair of character posters featuring Johnny Depp as the off-kilter Tonto and Armie Hammer as the mysterious Ranger. Check them out after the jump.

Fiery New ‘The Lone Ranger’ Photo

We’ll see a new trailer for Jerry Bruckheimer‘s The Lone Ranger soon as Disney plans an April 17 event to show off twenty minutes new footage accompanied by a Q&A and other bells and whistles.

But for now the studio has dropped a fiery new image. It’s a stark, appealing pic that could be from just about any western shot in the past decade. In that respect it’s pretty good, and we’ll hope the forthcoming footage has enough promise to match this and the sense of weirdness we get from Johnny Depp‘s serious, bird-headed appoach to Tonto. As a former Texas Ranger who fights for justice in the Old West, the Lone Ranger is a quintessentially American hero. But as a big-budget Disney spectacle, The Lone Ranger will be riding all over the globe this summer.

The studio has just unleashed a new international trailer for the tentpole pic, which stars Armie Hammer as the lantern-jawed do-gooder and Johnny Depp as is off-kilter sidekick Tonto. There’s plenty of exciting new action footage to be found in it, so check it out after the jump.

Disney’s biggest movie of the year might just be The Lone Ranger, which resurrects the classic American hero with Armie Hammer behind the mask. But the real hero of this take is really the Native American warrior Tonto, played by Johnny Depp. Gore Verbinski‘s movie looks lie a big western in the style of WB’s Sherlock Holmes with a little bit of native mysticism and a whole lot of gunplay and train action.

The latest footage for the film has been released in a new Super Bowl spot; check it out below.

With spring creeping up on us, a whole bunch of images have just been revealed for two very different high-profile releases. Bryan Singer‘s Jack the Giant Slayer is a CG-heavy fantasy epic based on the classic fairy tale, while Derek Cianfrance‘s The Place Beyond the Pines takes an atypical approach to the crime thriller genre.

In addition, we have a new still for Gore Verbinski‘s The Lone Ranger, which isn’t due out until summer but should be revealing a bit of new footage during this weekend’s Super Bowl. Check out all the pictures after the jump.

Super Bowl Sunday is fast approaching and that means new movie trailers. Word is there will be six this year: our first look at Fast and Furious 6, new ones for Star Trek Into Darkness and World War Z, and then three from Disney:  Iron Man 3 directed by Shane Black, The Lone Ranger, directed by Gore Verbinski and Oz The Great And Powerful, directed by Sam Raimi.

If they follow the pattern as last year, the spots themselves will have longer versions online during the game so check back here Sunday for those. Until then, Disney has released very brief teases of their spots, which you can watch below. Read More »

The full-length trailer for Gore Verbinski‘s The Lone Ranger released this week promised plenty of good stuff from the film: sweeping Western vistas, death-defying stunts, massive explosions, a banged-up Armie Hammer, and a weirdo Johnny Depp. One thing we won’t be getting, however, is a score from Jack White.

The former White Stripes frontman signed on this spring for what would have been his first full movie score, but has since exited the project. Stepping into White’s place now is Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer. More details after the jump.
