Though Fast and Furious fans are excited to be getting a new film soon, many took a moment of silence this week for Justin Lin‘s departure from the series. The director of the third, fourth, fifth and now sixth installments recently revealed that he wouldn’t return for Fast and Furious 7. Universal wants to rush it out next year, and he didn’t feel the schedule was creatively workable. This is the guy who took a franchise about racing cars a quarter mile at a time and turned it into a bona fide blockbuster action franchise. His touch will be missed.
That leaves Fast and Furious 7 in need of a director and Latino-Review is reporting three men are currently on the short list. They are Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2), Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer) and Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid). Read More »

With the smashing success of last year’s Fast Five, Universal’s been eager to keep moving forward with its popular Fast and the Furious franchise. A Fast Six was in the works before Fast Five even hit theaters, and for the past several months the rumor’s been that Fast Six and Fast Seven would tell an interconnecting story and shoot back-to-back this year.

Now the next film in the series may expand the family by one more, and no, I’m not talking about Walker and Jordana Brewster‘s unnecessary subplot baby.
A rumor has surfaced that The Transporter star Jason Statham is in very early talks to board the franchise. The same report also suggests that if Statham does sign on, he may be getting to work sooner rather than earlier, as the next two installments in the series (tentatively titled Fast Six and Fast Seven) may shoot back to back throughout next year. More details after the jump.
