Right now The Divergent Series is in a bit of a tight spot since the final installment of the young adult sci-fi franchise from Lionsgate just lost its director. Robert Schwentke has been at the helm of Insurgent and next month’s forthcoming Allegiant, but Ascendant just proved to be too much for the director, opting to “spend more time with his family” (or at least that’s what the studio says).
But the franchise has a bit of buffer time for now with The Divergent Series: Allegiant debuting one more quick trailer before the film hits theaters in just over a month. This one continues to focus on Shailene Woodley as the only pure being to come out of the desolate, post-apocalyptic Chicago with Jeff Daniels and his people choosing to get rid of the rest, seemingly for the betterment of humanity. With The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 arriving next week, Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment are prepared to show off the next chapter in the other major young adult sci-fi franchise featuring a female lead. The Divergent Series: Allegiant doesn’t arrive until March 2016, but a full trailer has arrived showing off just what’s at stake, and what Tris (Shailene Woodley) must do in order to ensure that she and the people of Chicago will survive whatever experiment is being done on the city. As next Maze Runner and Hunger Games films prepare for their fall bows, studio marketing teams are starting to pave the way for next year’s crop of YA action franchises. Following the new 5th Wave trailer earlier today comes the first trailer for The Divergent Series: Allegiant, starring Shailene Woodley as plucky heroine Tris.

The Divergent Series did a very typical thing when it decided to split the last book Allegiant into two movies, following the precedent set by Harry Potter, Twilight, and The Hunger Games. But now it’s taking a cue from its feisty heroine and bucking convention.
