The Book of Love Trailer

As we get closer to the end of the year, we’re starting to get trailers for movies that are getting unceremoniously dumped in January so as to have little to no competition with early spring blockbusters, the prime summer tentpoles or the previous month’s awards contenders. One of those is a new comedy that played at Tribeca under the title The Devil and The Deep Blue Sea, but now it has a new title and a telling release date.

The Book of Love has a promising cast featuring Jason Sudeikis and Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams in the story of a widower who sets out to help a young homeless girl build a vessel so she can literally set sail on a metaphorical new path for her life.

Just as we’re enjoying the last of 2012’s cinematic offerings, the latest edition of the Black List has hit the web. The annual survey highlights the hottest unproduced screenplays of the year, as based on the votes of hundreds of executives.

The term “unproduced” is used rather vaguely here. Some of these scripts (like Ivan Reitman‘s Draft Day and Wally Pfister‘s Transcendence) already have a director or star attached, while others are still floating around in search of the right studio or producer. The subjects and honorees range greatly as well.┬áNazi hunters, Hillary Clinton, the NFL, and time-traveling teens are among the subjects of this year’s winners, and the screenwriters run the gamut from industry newcomers to seasoned pros.

Zach Braff earned a big following with Scrubs and had one of the bigger breakout indie hits of the past decade when he wrote, directed and starred in Garden State. Now he’s starring in a smaller new film, The High Cost of Living, which is hitting VOD this week before getting a limited theatrical release. The movie has got some good notes, and as Zach Braff has promoted it one question naturally comes up: why hasn’t he directed anything since Garden State? (“That’s the question every reporter is asking me,” he said to Movieline.)

The answer to that question is pretty simple — he didn’t want to make a shitty movie — but it’s better to read it in his own words. Plus, the actor says he’s soon to make a film called The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, with Chloe Moretz and Jessica Biel. Read More »
