After winning an Oscar for The King’s Speech, Tom Hooper went bigger: he adapted the novel-turned-musical Les Miserables on large scale. Since then, he’s flirted with a few projects but has yet to settle on one. Now, a very interesting new option has revealed itself. One of his Les Mis cast members is along for the potentially controversial ride.

Hooper is attached to direct Eddie Redmayne in The Danish Girl, an adaptation of novel by David Ebershoff. It tells the true story of artist Einar Wegener who was one of the first people ever to have gender reassignment surgery. Read More »

Here’s a bit of casting news to start the day. Ray Winstone has jumped onto Red Snow, a “serial killer thriller” in which Winstone will be “an ex-SAS officer tracking down his missing daughter in the snow forests of a remote town in north Canada.” Script and direction are by Stuart St. Paul based on the true story of a killer that targeted Alaskan towns in the ’80s. After the break, news for Goran Visnjic and Gwyneth Paltrow. Read More »

If this post necessitated a lemon wedge on the side it would be The Kinks’ “Lola.” Swedish director Tomas Alfredson, responsible for one of the best films of last year, Let the Right One In, has decided to follow up with The Danish Girl. The project is an adaptation of the fictionalized book and account of the same name regarding Einar Wegener/Lili Elbe, who in 1931 received the first official sex change operation. Nicole Kidman, who knows a thing or two about aesthetic surgery, will portray Wegener/Elbe; meanwhile, Charlize Theron, who was attached (no pun) to play the wife of Kidman’s character, is no longer involved. No reason was given. I probably need not point out that Alfredson is the one pictured above.
