For the first time since 2011’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, we’re getting a new J.K. Rowling adaptation this year. But with its down-to-earth feel and grown-up themes, The Casual Vacancy is miles away from Hogwarts.
The drama miniseries unfolds in an English village whose idyllic appearance belies a town in turmoil. When a local leader passes away, the community falls apart as various individuals and factions vie to take his place.
The Casual Vacancy features a very large cast, among them Rory Kinnear (Skyfall), Simon McBurney (Mission: Impossible 5), and Dumbledore himself, Michael Gambon. Jonny Campbell directed from a script by Sarah Phelps. Watch The Casual Vacancy trailer after the jump.

Dumbledore was always a supporting character in the Harry Potter movies, but the guy who played him will get to take center stage in the next J.K. Rowling adaptation. Michael Gambon is set to lead HBO/BBC’s The Casual Vacancy, a miniseries adaptation of Rowling’s first “adult” novel.
Starring alongside him will be Julia McKenzie (Notes on a Scandal), Rory Kinnear (Skyfall), Monica Dolan (Sightseers), Richard Glover (A Field in England), and many more. Hit the jump to get all the details.

J.K. Rowling and Time Warner have a pretty good relationship. Together, they helped make one of the most successful and impressively coherent film franchises in history with Harry Potter. So it’s of little surprise Rowling turned in their direction when looking for a place to air her follow up novel, The Casual Vacancy, as a miniseries.
BBC and HBO will co-produce a three episode miniseries of The Casual Vacancy, which will air on BBC One in the UK and HBO in the US. Read more about The Casual Vacancy HBO below. Read More »

The BBC has struck a deal to adapt The Casual Vacancy, Rowling’s first post-Potter work and her first adult publication. Don’t expect golden Snitches and hippogriffs this time around — the book is a relatively realistic affair, set in contemporary non-magical (some would say Muggle) England. More details after the jump.
