Television is a fickle mistress. Here is a creative medium that places every possible roadblock in your way and then still finds a way to trip you after you’ve seemingly cleared every hurdle. And yet, some shows can recover when they have the right champions, like DC’s planned Teen Titans series, which may not be as dead as previously indicated. Meanwhile, WGN has officially pulled the plug on the critically acclaimed but under-watched Manhattan, retroactively transforming its season two finale into a series finale.

Titans, a live-action drama which would have centered on the DC Comics superhero team known as the Teen Titans, is officially dead at TNT. The Teen Titans have been the stars of many comics stories and animated in a multiple TV series, but they’ve never made the leap to live-action. Akiva Goldsman was trying to make a movie at one point, but now he and TNT are near a pilot order for a show called simply Titans. The live-action Teen Titans series would probably be closer to the “New Titans” incarnation of the character set, with a 20-something Nightwing (formerly Batman’s sidekick Robin) leading a team of other heroes and former sidekicks. The Hollywood Reporter has a good article updating DC Comics‘ Hollywood plans. Not much new information to come by, but an interesting read. The one thing I learned from the update is that Warners quietly hired three of DC’s biggest writers last fall as consultants and writers for their upcoming superhero projects — Geoff Johns, Grant Morrison and Marv Wolfman.
