It’s an action/thriller casting break this evening, featuring the return of some classic actors to familiar old stomping grounds. So after the break you’ll find:

  • Peter Stormare is a bad guy in Arniold Schwarzenegger’s The Last Stand,
  • Anthony Hopkins will hunt a serial killer in Solace,
  • and Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme and John Travolta may be confirmed for The Expendables 2.

David Fincher Options ‘Panic Attack’

Last year, David Fincher signed a development deal with Media Rights Capitol that would cover the financing of a couple films, and the new step in moving forward with pictures under that deal is the formation of a company called Panic Pictures. Perhaps appropriately, the first property optioned for the company is a thriller called Panic Attack, which Ted Griffin (Ocean’s Eleven, Tower Heist) will script. Read More »

FX Cancels ‘Terriers’

FX has officially canceled the best show on television that you weren’t watching, after only one season. Terriers had strong critical acclaim and a cult following, but mainstream audiences never found it due to a variety of reasons: a horrible title, bad marketing, and a plot which wasn’t excitingly explainable in one quick sentence. The series, created by Ted Griffin and exec produced by Griffin, Shawn Ryan and Tim Minear, starring Donal Logue and Michael Raymond-James as a former cop and reformed-criminal who team up to practice Private Investigation.

I’m very sad to learn this news as I was a big fan and supporter of the series. I still strongly recommend that everyone and anyone check out the series on iTunes or whenever the DVDs are released. The first season presents a strong narrative arc worthy of viewing despite the show’s early cancelation.

ratner-stiller-tower-heist

This is basically an incremental update on Tower Heist, which we’ve known for a while would likely be the new film from director Brett Ratner. The script and cast were reconfigured a while ago from the original conception (at one point described as a “black Ocean’s Eleven“) and Ben Stiller has been attached to star. Now the film is almost ready to shoot, and should have cameras rolling late this fall. Read More »

Brett Ratner Says Trump Heist Might Be Next

Brett Ratner

Movieline caught up with hack director Brett Ratner and was able to get “The Rat” to go on record about the many films listed on the director’s Internet Movie Database page. As suspected, most of them aren’t happening or are in early stages of development.

But the film Ratner claims is the “closest to getting made” is Trump Heist. The action crime comedy tells the story of a bunch of employees of the Trump Tower who conspire to rip off the building’s residents. Eddie Murphy is signed to play the leader of the crew of con artists and Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle and Chris Tucker are reportedly in consideration to join the cast. Ratner just hired Ocean’s Eleven scribe Ted Griffin to re-write the script.
