We thought global warming was heating up the planet, but really it’s Hollywood. They’re making it summer all year long. The first weekend of May is generally considered the beginning of the summer movie season but, as those three months got more and more crowded, that date slowly crept into late April. Now, 2011 changes that like never before.

So many potential blockbusters staked their claim on prime May, June and July 2011 release dates, in some cases, years in advance, Hollywood was forced to change its thinking more than usual. For the next two months, each and every weekend has at least one or two films that, in the past, would have easily been considered summer blockbusters and it all begins this Friday, March 4. So, is it crazy to say that the summer of 2011 begins in March? We don’t think so. Look at the list of films opening between this week and Thor on May 6 and tell us that, in almost any other year, these movies would not be considered summer blockbusters. Read More »

Retro ‘Sucker Punch’ Character Posters

Earlier this week, Warner Brothers released a new trailer for Zack Snyder‘s genre-bending, visual cornucopia Sucker Punch. The main comment was that the movie looked amazing but people were unsure about the story, which could be why we’ve seen such a plethora of print material. There’s no denying the movie looks amazing. ‘Sucker Punch’ Trailer #2

Warner Bros. has released a new movie trailer for Zack Snyder‘s new action fantasy film Sucker Punch, which stars Emily Browning, Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone, Vanessa Hudgens and Jamie Chung. It’s essentially a music video compilation of a bunch of kick-ass special effects-enhanced action sequences. It seems as if they got a bath of the final special effects shots approved and wanted to show them off to the public. Watch it now embedded after the jump. We just talked about the fact that Sherlock Holmes director Guy Ritchie has reportedly been offered the director’s chair on Xerxes, the sequel to 300. That comes as a bit of a shock, because that had previously been thought to be a Zack Snyder sequel, full stop. He did 300, then 300 more or less defined him, and he has been developing Xerxes with original graphic novel author Frank Miller. As of last summer the script was under way.

Along with the report that Xerxes might go to another director there were some allegations about script problems on Superman, which Zack Snyder is currently set to direct, and that his just-completed Sucker Punch hasn’t tested well, leading to studio dissatisfaction and the Xerxes handoff.
