Universal Pictures and Legendary have just officially set a release date for Pacific Rim 2, which seemed like a pipe dream three years ago when the original Pacific Rim failed to make much of an impression at the box office. Fortunately, our fellow sci-fi fans across the Atlantic were more than happy to add to the worldwide gross, and now here we are.  Read More »

Pacific Rim 2 director

The past couple of years have been a real roller coaster ride for Pacific Rim fans. The film’s limp U.S. box office dimmed hopes of a sequel, before a strong overseas performance got Universal interested again. A release date was set and everything seemed on track for more jaeger vs. kaiju fights… and then Universal got cold feet and put the whole thing on hold. Through it all, Guillermo del Toro insisted Pacific Rim 2 was not dead, and now it looks like his optimism is finally panning out.

Legendary Pictures has hired Spartacus creator and Daredevil season 1 Steven S. DeKnight to helm the sci-fi action sequel, while del Toro will remain on board as a producer. Universal Pictures is still set to distribute.

Jessica Jones TV series

Currently on stage before the Television Critics Association is a panel of Netflix showrunners representing a selection of the streaming service’s top original shows. Melissa Rosenberg is on the Showrunner Panel representing Marvel’s Jessica Jones TV series, which stars Krysten Ritter (pictured above in Breaking Bad). Asked about her upcoming show, the edgy tone Rosenberg described seems akin to their Daredevil series, though she emphasizes the two shows are very different.

And while Jessica Jones is based on the Marvel Comics series Alias (no relation to the TV show), which was one of the first “R-rated” runs from Marvel’s MAX imprint, Rosenberg says the Netflix series goes even further than the comics did.  Read More »

Daredevil fight scene

One of our favorite moments from Daredevil is the climactic fight sequence which ends Episode 2. Its probably my favorite television action sequence in recent years. So when I got a chance to talk to the cast and crew of Daredevil, all I wanted to know was how they pulled off that sequence. For those of you who haven’t yet watched the Netflix television series, the second episode ends with Daredevil in full vigilante mode, attempting to break into a baddie’s hideout to save someone.

The sequence lasts five and a half minutes long, with a three-minute fight in the middle, and is incredibly well choreographed. When I first saw it I almost stopped breathing as I realized the beauty of this single take. I’ll admit, it looks like the shot could be visually stitched together using three different takes (as was done in Birdman) but and according to those involved, the fight scene you see is the result of one lone single shot. Lets find out how they did that Daredevil fight scene, after the jump.
