It all started when I played in a band with Stevie Ray Vaughn. Sometimes the truth is a funny thing. Sometimes it just rocks your world. A rock and roll story almost twenty years in the making.

Some scientists say that time travel actually exists. But it’s risky. If you take the ride you have no control over what you’ll find or how you’ll be changed.

It’s been about 18 months since we first launched The Tobolowsky Files here at /Film. Since then, our show has been picked up by Seattle Public Radio (94.9 KUOW), received a book deal, and Stephen himself has been written up and featured in places as diverse as Hitfix, The Guardian, The New York Times, and, most recently, the WTF podcast with Marc Maron.
Today, I’m pleased to announce the next phase in getting Stephen’s stories out into the world: the first Stephen Tobolowsky Kindle Single, Cautionary Tales.
What is a Kindle Single, you might ask? And how can you get your hands on Stephen’s new stories, even if you don’t have a Kindle? It’s easy. Hit the jump to hear all the details.

What is Page 2? Page 2 is a compilation of stories and news tidbits, which for whatever reason, didn’t make the front page of /Film. After the jump we’ve included 24 different items, fun images, videos, casting tidbits, articles of interest and more. It’s like a mystery grab bag of movie web related goodness. If you have any interesting items that we might’ve missed that you think should go in /Film’s Page 2 – email us!

I don’t know what the weather is like where you guys are from, but here in Cambridge, MA, it has been a brutal, hellish winter. In the past 10 days, we’ve had three snow storms, each dumping about 6-12 inches of snow, rain and/or sleet in our city streets. I’m about ready for winter to be over right about now. Apparently, I’m not the only one: according to the extremely scientific methods used by Punxsutawney Phil, winter will be over sooner rather than later this year.
Alright, so maybe Phil isn’t totally accurate in his weather forecast. That being said, it’s still Groundhog Day, and what better way to celebrate than by gathering around the fire and listening to Stephen Tobolowsky (AKA Ned Ryerson) describe the making of the Harold Ramis classic Groundhog Day. Embedded below is episode 33 of The Tobolowsky Files, in which Stephen describes the behind-the-scenes action on one of the most beloved comedies of all time. Enjoy!

HomeStarRunnerTron has created a video remix of Harold Ramis’s classic 1993 comedy Groundhog Day. “Bing” took 8-and-a-half months to complete, and features Stephen Tobolowsky (of /Film’s own Tobolowsky Files podcast) as Ned Reyerson front and center. If it seems like something that might have been created by Pogo, that’s because it’s a tribute to Pogo. Here is a note from the artist:
This has been one maddening labor of love for me. This is a remix of a movie that has been near and dear to be since around Third Grade– the 1993 romantic-comedy-fantasy classic, Groundhog Day! It’s comprised entirely– and I mean entirely out of small bits and pieces of the movie, either re-pitched, slowed down, sped up, and sometimes with a slight touch of auto-tune for good measure (or a lot of auto-tune to re-configure chords in some score samples). The piece is completely inspired from my love of all things Pogo (aka the genius remixer from Perth), as well as just my affinity for music itself. I readjusted Jack Conte’s VideoSong medium to show every single one of the parts sampled. I tried to make this song a sweeping medley of emotions, quite in the same way the movie itself is! I do so hope you enjoy its whimsicality. *grins* It’s quite a smorgasbord of sight and sound. Am I right or am I right or am I right or am I right?

I have been waiting for almost a year to write the following sentence: Stephen Tobolowsky has just signed a book deal for a non-fiction book based on The Tobolowsky Files, to be published by Simon & Schuster in 2012. Needless to say, I am ecstatic that Stephen’s wonderful stories now have the potential to reach an even wider audience.
Less than a year ago when we first launched The Tobolowsky Files, all I knew was that we had something unique, something special. In my heart, I believed that the quality of Stephen’s writing equaled or exceeded those of other gifted writers like David Sedaris. Still, we had no idea how to get on the radio or how to get a book contract, though we hoped and prayed that they would happen. Today, both have come to pass (The Tobolowsky Files now broadcasts on KUOW 94.9 in Seattle, amongst other places). Thanks to all of our loyal listeners and to all who spent valuable time spreading the word about our show for making this possible!
And if you haven’t listened to The Tobolowsky files yet, feel free to get in on the ground floor! Subscribe using the links below:
