Daniel Craig‘s Mikael Blomkvist may be the protagonist of David Fincher‘s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but just as the title suggests, it’s Rooney Mara as mysterious, tough-as-nails Lisbeth Salander who’s the real draw of the story. A new extended TV spot for the thriller wisely puts the computer hacker front and center, establishing her fierce badassery before Craig’s character comes along to pull her into the actual plot. Watch the video after the jump.

We’ve already got a fairly good idea of what David Fincher‘s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo will look like, thanks to all those previously released photos, trailers, and whatnot, but since everything has looked pretty damn stunning so far, we’re more than happy to flip through a few more pictures. Empire Magazine has unveiled some gorgeous new promo pics of Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara in character in their latest issue. See Blomkvist (Craig) keeping his cool while handcuffed to a chair, Lisbeth (Mara) hanging out with her space heater, and the two of them sharing a smoky moment after the jump.

It’s probably a safe guess that Lars von Trier will be courting controversy once again with his next project, The Nymphomaniac, and now we know whom he might be courting controversy with. A pair of recent reports suggests that he’s eyeing previous collaborators Stellan Skarsgård and Willem Dafoe for the film. Though the film is described as a porno, it sounds like Skarsgård, at least, will be keeping it in his pants. Read more after the jump.

Joss Whedon and his crew spent plenty of time destroying the streets of Cleveland as the burg doubled for New York City, but sometimes there’s nothing like the real thing. Almost the full cast of The Avengers (Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Stellan Skarsgard and Mark Ruffalo) was filming at the Bethesda Fountain in Central Park in Manhattan Friday and some really great photos have come online.
These don’t spoil anything in particular but if you have been avoiding everything Avengers-related, you probably want to stay away. Potential spoilers (very small ones) follow. Read More »
There’s not a whole lot in this first official domestic trailer for Lars von Trier‘s Melancholia that we haven’t seen in previous trailers and clips. (Such as the great UK trailer we just saw a few days ago.) But what the hell, the film is among our most-anticipated of the year, and this trailer offers up a great HD look at the gorgeous and subtle cinematography from Manuel Alberto Claro.
So hit the jump and get one more look at the ways in which sisters played by Kirsten Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg deal with the possibility of the impending end of life on Earth. Read More »

It’s been a big, loud year for Lars von Trier, thanks in part to his new film Melancholia, and more so to the Cannes press conference comments that saw the director banned from the festival. But getting beyond that controversy, there’s the fact that Melancholia is one of the best-reviewed films of the director’s career, and remains one of my most-anticipated films of the fall.
We’ve seen one trailer for the film, in which Kirsten Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg play sisters with very different dispositions who are staring down the end of the world on the eve of Dunst’s character’s wedding. Now here’s the UK trailer, which nicely shows off the ensemble cast (which also includes Kiefer Sutherland, Charlotte Rampling, John Hurt, Alexander Skarsgård, Stellan Skarsgård and Udo Kier) and opens on a surprisingly upbeat note before settling into the anxious mode that you’d expect from a film about the end of the world.
