Nymphomaniac

Last week, producer Peter Aalbaek Jensen revealed that the cut of Nymphomaniac that’d make it to Danish theaters wouldn’t be the one Lars von Trier wanted to make. His director’s cut was a butt-numbing 5 1/2 hours long, prompting distributors to whittle it down to a more marketable four hours.

However, Jensen now adds that the longer version could find a release after all, if von Trier really wants it to. It’ll just have to go through alternate routes. Hit the jump to read his explanation, and to check out two more steamy posters.

Nymphomaniac

In the first clip from Lars Von Trier‘s Nymphomaniac, two bored young women turned sex into a game. The latest snippet, however, warns that sleeping around can have its downsides. Pulled from a segment titled “Mrs. H,” it shows Joe (played as a young woman by Stacy Martin and as a grownup by Charlotte Gainsbourg) dealing with the consequences of sleeping with a married man (Hugo Speer).

His wife (Uma Thurman) is none too thrilled when she finds out, as you might imagine. She subsequently expresses her anger in most awkward way possible: by offering to show their kids “daddy’s favorite place,” the “whoring bed” on which he had his affair. Watch the scene after the jump.

Nymphomaniac

Lars Von Trier‘s Nymphomaniac doesn’t even have a U.S. release date yet, but Magnolia has already offered up a little morsel to whet our appetite for the film.

The just-released clip comes from the first chapter of the film, called “The Compleat Angler.” Although Joe is the nymphomaniac of the film’s title, in this early scene she’s the naive one. It’s her worldlier friend B (Sophie Kennedy Clark) who schools her in the art of seduction while on a train. Stacy Martin plays the younger version of Joe, who’s portrayed as an adult by Charlotte Gainsbourg. Watch it after the jump.

It’s always difficult to rely upon an interview run through one of the various automatic translators on the internet, no matter how good the babel fish in question might be. So take what follows with a slightly elastic spirit — unless you speak Swedish, and want to verify the translation of the original text.

Stellan Skarsgard talked to Moviezine in Sweden and discussed a couple of his upcoming films — Thor 2, and Lars von Trier‘s Nymphomaniac — as well as a film that he isn’t yet cast in, to the best of his knowledge. (That would be The Avengers 2, which is far enough out right now that no one is really cast in it.)

Aside from mentioning that he’d let his kids watch Nymphomaniac — seeing sex is better than seeing violence is essentially his comment — nothing Skarsgard says is too far out there. But if you’re looking for info on either of those two projects, press on. Read More »

Today, Lars von Trier begins shooting his new film(s) Nymphomaniac, which tell “the wild and poetic story of a woman’s erotic journey from birth to the age of 50.” If things go as planned, the final release will be split into two films, with hardcore and softcore versions of each. Shooting in Germany and Belgium, the project stars Charlotte Gainsbourg as Joe, the self-diagnosed nymphomaniac of the title, and the participation of Stellan Skarsgård and Shia LaBeouf is confirmed by a press release announcing the start of production.

That same press release confirms other actors and reveals some new names that will be part of the story, too: Stacy Martin (as young Joe), Jamie Bell, Connie Nielsen, Mia Goth, Jens Albinus, Severin von Hoensbroech, Peter Gilberg Cotton, Nicolas Bro, Tabea Tarbiat, Janine Romanowski, Jesper Christensen, Tania Carlin, Felicity Gilbert and Shanti Roney.
